Costume Guide – New Hire Nebris

Official Patch Notes

Exclusive Weapon

Overview

Gigantic damage when buffed up, especially with Nebris's high offensive stats

Strong synergy with other costumes, which grant self-buffs

Good AOE and cost

Needs time to set up

Really needs investment in her other costumes

Since she needs the maximum buffs possible, you are limited in the kind of team you can build to support her

Poor performance in PVP where multiple buffs are not common

Nebris for PVE

Nebris is already the strongest physical wind attacker, and this third costume now solidifies her position over her competitors, and quite possibly makes her the strongest attacker in the whole game.

At +5 full potential, New Hire Nebris gains damage of 30% of her ATK per hit per buff (since she has 3 hits, that's effectively a gain of 90% per buff).

First of all, Nebris's other costumes give her self buffs. Laid-Back Lifeguard gives a small ATK buff (6 turns) or property damage buff (2 turns). Labyrinth Gatekeeper gives a damage amplification buff (6 turns) or crit dmg buff (6 turns). Therefore, by using Nebris's two other costumes first, it is possible to have up to 2 buffs already applied from her own skills (and of course also benefit from those great buffs).

Other that Nebris's own skills, your main source of buffs will be other buffers on your team. Many costumes have effects that give multiple buffs at once. Costumes that give multiple buffs include, for example:

  • Arines (crit buff + ATK buff)
  • H.Lathel (2 ATK buffs on the first turn)
  • MC.Teresse (ATK buff + heal buff)
  • RH.Rou (crit buff + energy guard)
  • G.Refi (Crit dmg buff + damage reduction buff)
  • PWB.Refi (Chain buff + energy guard + property damage buff: 3 buffs!)

Note 1: Testing shows that Energy Guards count as buffs.

Note 2: Surprisingly, AOTU.Diana gives only 1 buff, even though her buff has 2 effects (property damage + crit buff).

Note 3: Teresse and Refi are ideal teammates for New Hire Nebris because they have 2 costumes that give buffs, allowing bigger buff stacks. Over 2 turns, BA.Teresse (1) + MC.Teresse (2) + G.Refi (2) + PWB.Refi (3) makes a total of 5 buffs!

So how high can we expect Nebris to go? The below table summarizes her damage at +5 full potential (excluding chain damage):

BuffsDamage (ex chain damage)
3510%
4600%
5690%
6780%
7870%
8960%
91050%
101140%
111230%
121320%

Just using Teresse, Refi and Nebris's own buffs over 2 set-up turns will give New Hire Nebris a total of 7 buffs (1st turn LL.Nebris only, 2nd turn LG.Nebris + Teresse + Refi, 3rd turn nuke with Teresse + Refi + NH.Nebris). This leaves space on your team for 2 more buffers, which can easily bring the total buff count to 9-11 buffs. As you can see, the damage output is absolutely insane, and even surpasses QOS.Michaela (without any of the punishing downsides).

However, just keep in mind that having multiple buffs of the same type (e.g. multiple ATK buffs) is not as effective as having many different types of buffs. E.g. Arines + H.Lathel + MC Teresse is not efficient because all 3 of them are ATK buffs. You would be better off replacing Arines with say GC.Rafina or MB.Celia, even though they do not increase Nebris's buff count. Be cautious not to use an inefficient supporter combo just for the sake of improving buff count alone.

So what PVE game modes is Nebris good for? Clearly, she is great for long battles where we have time to setup, such as fiend hunts and guild raids. She is much less effective in shorter battles, because you have much less room to buff yourself up.

NH.Nebris can also be quite good for hard battles such as Tower of Jealousy and Tower of Wrath, if you can give yourself enough time to setup (e.g. with New Hire Seir protecting you).

Nebris for PVP

Despite now having 3 costumes to choose from, Nebris remains a poor choice for PVP. It's very difficult to stack buffs in PVP, and the battles are certainly too fast paced to give NH.Nebris time to come online.

There is unfortunately no room in the PVP meta for 3 SP skills that don't have a large and reliable impact.

Conclusion

Nebris lovers will need no convincing at all to pull for New Hire Nebris. If you're already invested in Nebris costumes, then New Hire is a must have, because Nebris's previous two costumes basically exist just to set up New Hire's massive attack.

If you're not yet invested in Nebris, you're going to get a lot less utility out of her. She demands that you acquire all her costumes for maximum effect. After all, Nebris is the kind of gal that requires you to be all in!
