Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Act 1 – Esquie’s Nest Walkthrough

After the adventures in Gestral Village, your journey continues to a new area called Esquie's Nest. This location offers a new boss, more collectibles, and a new ability. This walkthrough covers everything you need to know about this area, from how to get there to all the treasures you can find.

How to Get to Esquie's Nest

After leaving Gestral Village and returning to the main continent, you need to head east until you spot a large statue head with crown-like spikes. This is the same area where you previously found the lost Gestral before entering the Ancient Sanctuary. Look at the base of this statue, and you'll notice a portal. Interact with it to be transported directly to Esquie's Nest.

Walkthrough

Entrance

Upon arriving at Esquie's Nest, follow the path forward until you see Expedition Flag 66 on your left. At this point, you'll notice the path splits in two directions.

The right path, exactly opposite to the Expedition flag, leads to a small cave where you can find a Colour of Lumina. Make sure to grab this before continuing your journey.

Take the left path to progress the main story. As you follow this route, you'll encounter a gestral NPC named Sunniso. Approaching him triggers a cutscene where he mentions needing a password to enter. During this conversation, Sciel mockingly suggests that Gustave should say the password since he's the loudest. After this brief interaction, continue along the path.

Keep moving forward through a long cave passage. At the end of this tunnel, you'll notice some lantern-like lights, which prompt a conversation between your characters in the background. Before crossing the main bridge ahead, take some time to explore the areas below.

If you jump off the right side of the bridge, you'll encounter a Mime. Defeat it to obtain the Baguette Outfit and Baguette Haircut for Sciel. Near where the Mime was standing, look for glowing mushrooms on the ground. Approach them to collect a mushroom item. Use the handholds to climb back up to the bridge.

Next, jump down to the left side of the bridge to find a Petank. To battle it, chase it onto a yellow-illuminated tile on the right path. You must defeat it before it runs away. Your reward for defeating it includes 5 Polished Chroma Catalysts, 1 Recoat, and 5 Colours of Lumina.

Now, return to the main bridge path and proceed forward. You'll get to a large open area with multiple pathways. In the center, you'll see stairs with two landings. Climb to the first landing, then head left to find some Chroma. Continue up to the second landing to trigger a cutscene introducing Esquie.

During this cutscene, Esquie asks you to recover Florrie, which was stolen by his archnemesis Francois. After the scene ends, follow the path to the right of Esquie and continue forward. At the end of this path, use the grapple to interact with the pillar infront and jump to the other side.

On the new ramp, first go right to collect another Colour of Lumina. Then head in the opposite direction, where you'll find an Expedition Flag 66 on your left (Francois' Cave). Interact with the flag to rest if needed, then follow the path into the cave.

Francois' Cave

As you enter this area, a cutscene with Francois begins, followed immediately by a boss fight. While intimidating, this battle isn't particularly difficult. Francois starts with 5 shields that you can break fairly easily. His main attack, dramatically called "Francois uses the strongest Ice Attack ever," lives up to its name and can kill you instantly if you don't dodge it.

After defeating Francois, you'll receive a Picto called Augmented First Strike and watch a short cutscene. When the cutscene ends, you'll notice two paths: one leading back to the Expedition Flag and another featuring a rope. Take the rope path to collect additional items.

Climb the rope and follow the path at the top, grabbing 1,305 Chroma currency along the way. At the end of this route, you can jump to a stone pillar to collect another Colour of Lumina.

Return to Esquie, which triggers another cutscene. He explains that what you've brought isn't actually Florrie and eventually flies away after a few dialogues, knocking down a pillar in the process. Head to this fallen pillar and use the grapple to get to the other side.

Continue moving forward along the path. Soon you'll see the route split again. Take the small right path to collect Expedition Journal 66, then return to the main path and keep going. Grapple to the other side of the rock to proceed.

As you continue, you'll find another Picto called Energising Start III at the end of the ledge. Jump down the ledge to return to the very first Expedition Flag at the entrance. From here, follow the same path you took to enter, heading toward the exit portal that will take you back to the continent.

Before leaving, you'll unlock a new ability called "Esquie." This ability allows you to summon Esquie anytime while on the continent by pressing the square button. After completing Esquie's Nest, your next destination should be Stone Wave Cliffs.
