Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 Act 1 – To Stone Wave Cliffs Walkthrough

After completing Esquie's Nest, you gain an amazing new ability that changes how you explore the Continent. By pressing Square, you can transform into Esquie, allowing you to move faster and cross those spiky rocks that previously blocked your path. This guide will walk you through all the cool places you can now visit and treasures you can find before heading to the next main area, Stone Wave Cliffs.

The Continent Treasures

Right after leaving Esquie's nest, follow the left wall to find your first explorable rocky terrain. Use your transformation to cross it and discover a small camp with Chroma x1,305. You'll also find a Colour of Lumina nearby.

This area contains a portal to Twilight Quarry, a small optional zone where you can easily grab a Music Record for your collection. Get in there and quickly grab the Un 33 Decembre a Lumiere Music Record.

Now, head back to when you first discovered Flying Waters. Look east of the Flying Waters portal for another spiky rock with a floating building behind it. Cross it with Esquie to find a portal leading to Ancient Gestral City, where you can collect another easy Music Record, Lights of the Past. Near the portal, you'll discover a small camp containing another Colour of Lumina.

Next, go back to the entrance of the Ancient Sanctuary. Head towards the west, and just north of the Gestral Beach, there is another spiky rock you can go through. Beyond it lies the entrance to Yellow Harvest. This optional area features a Mime character for unique interactions, two optional bosses, and plenty of valuable loot.

This area is quite difficult to face now, so just remember the spot and we’ll get back here later on.

From the Yellow Harvest portal, turn right and destroy the spiky rocks. You will see a Field Boss ahead, you can ignore it for now, instead turn left and look for another spiky rocks you can destroy to get Journal - Expedition 62. Head towards the east and destroy another spiky rocks to get Pictos - Energising Start I. Right across it, you will find Jumeliba, a Gestral Merchant who sells Charming and Curly haircuts for Gustave.

Ultimate Sakapatate

Before heading to Stone Wave Cliffs, there’s an important side quest you shouldn’t skip if you’re aiming to complete your outfit collection. Head back to Gestral Village and give the Blue Mushroom (found in Esquie’s Nest) to Karatom. This will trigger a battle against his Ultimate Sakapatate, and you’ll be fighting it solo as Gustave.

If you can perfectly parry its attacks and remember the timing to jump, the fight becomes manageable, though it may take a while due to its large health pool. Defeating it rewards you with Gustave’s exclusive “Pure” outfit.

This outfit is missable! You must complete the quest before finishing Stone Wave Cliffs, or you’ll permanently lose access to it.

Now, it’s time to head to the Stone Wave Cliffs’ entrance. From Esquie’s Nest, head north to find an area blocked by spiky rocks. Get past it and immediately look to the left for Chroma x1,305 in a small camp. Up on the left is the portal you need to go to, however, let’s venture towards the right path to do some more exploration.

Optional Bourgeon Boss Battle

Taking the right path will lead you to an optional Bourgeon boss battle. This is a tough battle, but doable. The boss uses similar tactics but brings additional allies to the fight. It’s recommended to fight this boss because winning the fight rewards you with Gustave Weapon - Gaulteram (Level 8), Weapon - Abyssram (Level 8), Pictos - Augmented Counter I, Bourgeon Skin, and a Polished Chroma Catalyst

After defeating it, continue along the path to find a Lost Gestral on the right and Pictos - Healing Parry on the far side of the dead-end. This Pictos is really good for Sciel, and eventually as a Lumina upgrade for all the characters.

The Camp

When you approach Stone Wave Cliffs, your party will suggest resting at camp first, triggering some important story developments. At camp, you'll watch another cutscene from "Maelle's Nightmare," providing deeper insight into this character's background. You'll also witness an important conversation between Gustave and Maelle that develops their relationship.

The camp introduces a new Gestral named Sastro, who serves an important role in your adventure going forward. He watches over the Lost Gestrals you've been finding throughout your journey and explains there are nine missing Gestrals in total, scattered across the world.

For each Lost Gestral you find and send to camp, Sastro will give you special rewards as thanks for your help. If you've found two Lost Gestrals already, visit him to receive Maelle Haircut - Gestral and Lune Haircut - Gestral.

When you're ready to continue your journey, interact with the campfire and choose "Go to sleep". Next, we are going to the Stone Wave Cliffs!
