Honkai: Star Rail Yunli Character Guide

Introduction

Yunli is an offensive character who can automatically perform a Blast Counter when attacked. Additionally, after Yunli uses her Ultimate, she can actively enter the Parry state and Taunt the enemy. During this period, when attacked or when Parry ends, Yunli immediately performs a powerful Counter attack on the enemy.

Skills Overview

Basic Attack - Galespin Summersault

Deals Physical DMG equal to 50%—110% of Yunli's ATK to a single target enemy.

Skill - Bladeborne Quake

Restores HP equal to 20%—32% of Yunli's ATK plus 50—222.5. Deals Physical DMG equal to 60%—132% of Yunli's ATK to a single target enemy and Physical DMG equal to 30%—66% of Yunli's ATK to adjacent targets.

Ultimate - Earthbind, Etherbreak

Consumes 120 Energy. Yunli gains Parry and Taunts all enemies, lasting until the end of the next ally's or enemy's turn.

Increases the CRIT DMG dealt by Yunli's next Counter by 60%—108%.

  1. When triggering the Counter effect from Talent, launches the Counter "Intuit: Cull" instead and removes the Parry effect.
  2. If no Counter is triggered while Parry is active, Yunli will immediately launch the Counter "Intuit: Slash" on a random enemy target.
This is Intuit: Slash - the MID one out of the two.

"Intuit: Slash": Deals Physical DMG equal to 132%—237.6% of Yunli's ATK to the target, and deals Physical DMG equal to 66%—118.8% of Yunli's ATK to adjacent targets.

This is Intuit: Cull - the BETTER one out of the two.

"Intuit: Cull": Deals Physical DMG equal to 132%—237.6% of Yunli's ATK to the target, and deals Physical DMG equal to 66%—118.8% of Yunli's ATK to adjacent targets. Then, additionally deals 6 instances of DMG, each dealing Physical DMG equal to 43.2%—77.76% of Yunli's ATK to a random single enemy.

When Yunli deals DMG via this ability, it's considered as dealing Ultimate DMG.

Talent - Flashforge

When Yunli gets attacked by an enemy target, additionally regenerates 15 Energy and immediately launches a Counter on the attacker, dealing Physical DMG equal to 60%—132% of Yunli's ATK to the attacker and Physical DMG equal to 30%—66% of Yunli's ATK to adjacent targets.

If there is no immediate target to Counter, then Counters a random enemy target instead.

Technique - Posterior Precedence

This unit gains the Ward effect, lasting for 20 seconds. During this time, upon entering combat by either attacking enemies or receiving an attack, immediately casts "Intuit: Cull" on a random enemy, and increases the DMG dealt by this attack by 80%.

Ascension 2 - Fiery Wheel

After each use of "Intuit: Slash," the next "Intuit: Slash" will be replaced by "Intuit: Cull."

Ascension 4 - Demon Quell

While in the Parry state, resists Crowd Control debuffs received and reduces DMG received by 20%.

Ascension 6 - True Sunder

When using a Counter, increases Yunli's ATK by 30%, lasting for 1 turn.

TLDR

At first glance, Yunli's kits look really confusing. But in the end of the day, it's all about whether the enemies will hit Yunli or not. Thus, she's quite dependent on her signature LC or Lynx.

Both her Basic ATK and Skill are really basic; with Basic ATK dealing Physical DMG and Skill also dealing Physical DMG while healing herself.

What's important is her Talent and Ultimate.
With Yunli's Talent, everytime she is hit by an enemy, it will make her gain 15 Energy and launches a Counter attack. Unfortunately, she lacks increased aggro in her base kit, that's why she needs her signature LC or Lynx to help increase aggro on herself.

Her Ultimate is the cream of the crop. By using her Ultimate, Yunli gains Parry and Taunts all enemies, lasting until the end of the next ally or enemy turn.
KEEP IN MIND of that timeline --> the Parry and Taunt will stay until the END of the NEXT ally or enemy's turn. This is such an important task that you should not depend on the auto-battle because we all know how mid that system is.

Intuit: Cull -> bigger sword, bigger counter
Intuit: Slash -> mid sword, mid counter

During the Parry state, her next Counter hit depends on whether she will got hit by an enemy or not.
If she got hit by an enemy (aka triggering Counter) > she will launch Counter "Intuit: Cull." This is the STRONGEST counter she has.
If she doesn't get hit (and does not trigger any Counter) > she will launch Counter "Intuit: Slash." This is the MID counter she has.

To get the best outcome, you need to supervise the battle and make sure to always use her Ultimate right before an enemy attacks. If you use auto-battle, it might mess up some counters.

Before finishing, let's talk about one final thing; Yunli's mechanic on her portrait. There's a lot going on here. (Please ignore all the buffs below the HP bar since they are irrelevant.)
First of all, look at the 2 circles beside Yunli's portrait. Those 2 are her Ultimates. Similar to Argenti, Yunli can save up to 2 Ultimate. However, it does not mean she can do 2 different Ultimates like Argenti.
There are the big circles and the small circles. Those 2 are related. If you have full Energy that lit up 2 big circles, then the 2 small circles will also light up. In other words, the small circles are there to make it even easier to spot whether Yunli has 1 or 2 Ultimate saved.

Next is the small sword icon to the left of her portrait. That is her A2 indicator.

Ascension 2 - Fiery Wheel
After each use of "Intuit: Slash," the next "Intuit: Slash" will be replaced by "Intuit: Cull."

If that circle lights up, that means your next Counter from Ultimate is guaranteed to be "Intuit: Cull," you know, the better counter out of the two. Use this to your advantage to plan out the best time to use Yunli's Ultimate.

HOW to get this to light up? Simple, your previous Counter needs to be Intuit: Slash (the one where Yunli uses Ultimate but no enemy is attacking her). After that, the sword circle will up to remind you that the next counter is the Intuit: Cull.

Traces Priorities

Ultimate > Talent > Skill > Basic ATK

Yunli's big damage comes from her Ultimate and Talent. However, to gain energy for that Ultimate, you would also need to use Skill and Basic ATK (Talent also generates some Energy). During the battle, switch between using Skill and Basic ATK to conserve Skill Points for the team.
If Yunli doesn't need any healing, use Basic ATK. But if she's in need of emergency healing, use her Skill.
