Artian Weapon Guide – Crafting and Rerolling

If you're diving into Monster Hunter Wilds and want to take your hunting game to the next level, Artian weapons are your secret weapon. These aren't just your average monster-slaying tools – they're a game-changing addition to the endgame experience that will keep you grinding and strategizing for hours. In this guide, I will explain everything you need to know about Artian weapons in Wilds, including how to craft, reinforce, and to reroll.

What is an Artian Weapon in Wilds?

Artian weapons are special, customizable weapons with high base stats and the best jewel slots. Moreover, you can reinforce Artian weapons to enhance Attack, Affinity, Element, or Sharpness stats based on the randomized rolls you get. We will cover this topic in detail later.

Overall, Artian weapons are endgame weapons that outperform most monster-specific weapons. However, note that only Rarity 8 Artian weapons are worth crafting—lower-rarity versions are not as effective.

How to Unlock Artian Weapons

To unlock access to crafting Artian weapons, you'll need to progress through the main story until you reach Chapter 4 in High Rank. The gateway opens with a challenging quest called "Thundering Flowers" where you'll face off against a Guardian Anjanath and Tempered Lala Barina.

Once you complete the quest, you'll unlock the ability to forge Artian weapons at Gemma's Forge. However, the best Artian weapons are not available at this stage. To truly maximize their potential, you need to progress further into the endgame, specifically HR 40+.

How to Craft Artian Weapons

To craft Artian weapons, you need special materials called Weapon Shards. These materials can be obtained by hunting Tempered monsters.

Crafting Artian weapons is not as simple as crafting monster variants. To forge one, you need to combine three pieces of Weapon Shards, depending on the type of weapon you are trying to craft:

  • Great Sword: Blade, Blade, Tube
  • Sword & Shield: Blade, Tube, Disc
  • Hammer: Disc, Disc, Tube
  • Lance: Blade, Disc, Disc
  • Switch Axe: Blade, Blade, Device
  • Insect Glaive: Blade, Tube, Device
  • Heavy Bowgun: Disc, Tube, Device
  • Long Sword: Blade, Tube, Tube
  • Dual Blades: Blade, Blade, Disc
  • Hunting Horn: Disc, Device, Device
  • Gunlance: Disc, Disc, Device
  • Charge Blade: Blade, Disc, Device
  • Light Bowgun: Tube, Device, Device
  • Bow: Tube, Tube, Device

Each Shard has an infusion type: Attack or Affinity.

  • Attack infusion enhances the base damage of the crafted Artian weapon.
  • Affinity infusion increases the weapon’s critical hit chance.

If you prefer higher base damage, aim for three pieces of Attack-infused Shards. However, you can mix the infusion types to create a balance that suits your playstyle.

Elemental Artian

Each of the Shards also has its own elemental properties. To craft an elemental weapon, you need to combine at least two Shards with the same elemental property out of the total three. However, it's best to combine three with the same elemental property to achieve the highest elemental value.

Elementless Artian

To craft an elementless weapon, or Raw weapon, you need to combine three different element types. This will result in the crafted Artian weapon being elementless.

How to Get Artian Weapon Materials

Shards are randomly obtained from hunting Tempered monsters, you will need to grind extensively to get the ideal combination. You will get different Rarity Shards based on the monster you are hunting.

I highly recommend regularly checking your map for Tempered monsters. When you find the one you're looking for, immediately save it to an Investigation. This will grant you three hunts with the same rewards instead of just one if you choose to hunt them as a Field Survey.

Rarity 6 (Damaged Weapon Shard)

  • Tempered Chatacabra
  • Tempered Quematrice
  • Tempered Lala Barina
  • Tempered Congalala
  • Tempered Balahara
  • Tempered Rompopolo
  • Tempered Nerscylla
  • Tempered Hirabami
  • Tempered Yian Kut-Ku
  • Tempered Gypceros
  • Tempered Rathian

Rarity 7 (Rusted Weapon Shard)

  • Tempered Doshaguma
  • Tempered Ajarakan
  • Tempered Guardian Doshaguma
  • Tempered Guardian Rathalos
  • Tempered Guardian Ebony Odogaron
  • Tempered Xu Wu
  • Tempered Guardian Fulgur Anjanath
  • Tempered Rathalos
  • Tempered Gravios
  • Tempered Blangonga

Rarity 8 (Ancient Weapon Shard)

  • Tempered Uth Duna
  • Tempered Rey Dau
  • Tempered Nu Udra
  • Tempered Jin Dahaad
  • Tempered Gore Magala
  • Tempered Arkveld

I recommend only crafting the Rarity 8 Artian weapons because the monsters' weapon variants are better than the Rarity 6 or 7 Artian weapons. For example, defeating Tempered Rathalos will give you a Rusted Weapon Shard and a Hunter Symbol II. With the Hunter Symbol II, you can craft Rathalos' Rarity 8 weapon, which is much better than the Rarity 7 Artian.

How to Reinforce Artian Weapons

What makes Artian weapons superior to the monsters' variants is that Artian weapons can be reinforced, which further increases the stats of the weapon. The reinforcements are a combination of random stat increases, such as Attack, Affinity, Element, or Sharpness.

Talk to our lovely smithy, Gemma, and select the "Reinforce/Dismantle Artian Weapon". To fully reinforce Artian weapons, specifically Rarity 8 variants, you need 3,000 points, which you can get by giving Gemma 50 Oricalcite.

Best Way to Farm Oricalcite

You do need a lot of Oricalcite—to reinforce, to do rerolls (which I will explain later)—and to farm Oricalcite, the best way is to trade Arkveld's materials for it with Roqul, the Smelting Foundry in Oilwell Basin.

The best way to farm Arkveld's materials is to look for Arkveld's investigations that reward you with its Gem, as the Gem has the highest value for trading Oricalcite. You can do this by searching for SOS Arkveld investigations. Keep hunting it, and your item box will be filled with Arkveld's materials to trade for Oricalcite.

How to Reroll Artian Reinforcement

While reinforcing your Artian is randomized, there is a way to actually get what you want, and this method is called rerolling. So how does rerolling work?

The way Artian reinforcement works may seem randomized; however, it is actually fixed based on a seed. What this means is that you will get the exact same randomized bonuses each time you reinforce the same type of weapon in a sequence.

Do note that the same sequence seed only works for the same Rarity. So, if you are trying to get a god roll on a Rarity 8 (which you should), you can't progress the roll sequence order using Rarity 6 or 7. Rarity 6 and 7 are only good for dismantling or smelting.

Now, rerolling means that you reinforce the roll you desire by using a methodical approach:

Method 1: Mass Craft and Reload

  1. Craft multiple Artian weapons of the same tree.
  2. Reinforce all of them to check what rolls you get.
  3. Take note of the rolls you get in order.
  4. Once you get the roll you want, take note of how many weapons you need to craft and reinforce before you get the roll you want. In this case, let's say you got the roll you wanted on the 10th weapon.
  5. Quit to the title screen WITHOUT SAVING (be careful, don't accidentally save it).
  6. Get back into the game.
  7. Craft useless parts you don't want (must be the same weapon) until the specific order where you get the roll you want. In this case, the 10th weapon should have the stats you want.
  8. Reinforce the 10th weapon, and you will get the desired rolls.

Note that this sequence applies to both raw and elemental weapons, meaning it progresses with the same fixed seed. However, the elemental weapon will have different sets of bonuses while still following the same sequence.

Note that all elements and statuses, such as Paralyze, Blast, and Sleep, are considered in the elemental seed.

So, if you are looking for the god-roll reinforcement for your elemental weapon, it's best to do the reroll with all elemental Artians, of course, from the same weapon tree. The same goes for raw weapons—it's best to craft only raw Artians.

So, we suggest you create a table to record the rolls you get so you don't lose track of the order.

Method 2: Craft, Dismantle, Save, and Reload

The second method is faster, tho you really have to commit and really have a huge supply of Artian Materials and Oricalcite. In this method, you will dismantle and save after each reinforcement. The outcome remains the same—you still need to craft the same amount of Artians, but with a different approach:

  1. Craft a single Artian weapon of your choice using junk parts.
  2. Reinforce the crafted weapon.
  3. Check the reinforcement. If you are not satisfied, dismantle it.
  4. Save the game.
  5. Craft a new one, also using junk parts, reinforce, dismantle, and save.
  6. Repeat the steps until you find the roll you are looking for.
  7. After finding the desired roll, quit WITHOUT SAVING.
  8. Reload the game and craft the Artian weapon using the parts you want.
  9. Reinforce it, and you will get the rolls you want.

Personally, I prefer this approach because it is more straightforward, without needing to record rolls in a table, and you will need to dismantle the unwanted Artians anyway.

What are the Best Artial Reinforcement Rolls?

The best reinforcement rolls really depend on the playstyle and build. However, the general best rolls for all Artian weapons are:

  • All Attack Infusion
  • 4 Attack + 1 Sharpness
  • 3 Attack + 1 Affinity + 1 Sharpness
  • 3 Attack + 2 Sharpness
  • 2 Attack + 2 Element + 1 Sharpness
  • 4 Element + 1 Sharpness
  • 3 Attack + 2 Ammo Capacity (for LBG and HBG)

Why do you need 1 Sharpness? Because Artian weapons' white sharpness is extremely short, and maintaining white sharpness is crucial for dealing the highest possible damage. Adding one Sharpness reinforcement will extend the duration of white sharpness, maximizing the weapon’s potential and reducing the need for frequent sharpening.

That's everything you need to know about Artian weapons! From unlocking, crafting, and reinforcing to rerolling reinforcements, you now have all the knowledge to master these ancient weapons. With this guide, it's time to grind materials, optimize your build, and chase those god rolls!
