Mantles make a triumphant return in Monster Hunter Wilds, offering hunters powerful temporary effects that can significantly impact gameplay. First introduced in Monster Hunter World, these specialized tools provide unique advantages during hunts, from rendering yourself invisible to monsters to increasing your attack power at the cost of draining health. This guide covers everything about mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds, including the tier list and how to unlock them all.
Monster Hunter Wilds Mantle Tier List
There are currently five different mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds, each with its own uses. This tier list ranks the mantles from best to worst based on their general usage and usefulness in a hunt:
S Tier

A Tier

B Tier

S Tier Mantles
Corrupted Mantle and Rocksteady Mantle stand as the top tier in Monster Hunter Wilds.
Corrupted Mantle is one of the best mantles to use for significantly boosting your damage. Wearing this mantle slowly drains your HP but increases your attack power and boosts Affinity, which is essential for landing critical hits. With the help of the Arkvulcan or G. Arkveld set, your drained HP will be restored anyway, allowing you to maintain the damage boost. This mantle is the best choice for the endgame, where endgame builds compensate for the HP loss and help you reach maximum Affinity.
Rocksteady Mantle is also one of the best mantles to use, especially if you wield a combo-heavy weapon like Great Sword, Switch Axe, Charge Blade, or Hammer. Not only does it increase defense, but it also prevents flinching and stumbling from roars and monster attacks, creating opportunities for you to unleash uninterrupted TCS or FRS. However, keep a close eye on your HP while using Rocksteady, as you might not realize you've tanked multiple hits and that your health is in a critical state.
A Tier Mantles
Evasion Mantle and Ghillie Mantle stand in the mid-tier, as they are useful yet not as great as the S-tier.
Evasion Mantle extends your dodging window, and when you execute a perfect dodge, your attack power increases. This mantle is perfect for weapons that rely on constant evasion, such as Long Sword, Dual Blades, and Bow. With the new perfect dodge mechanics, Evasion Mantle can further boost your damage potential.
Ghillie Mantle, while being a default and lower-level mantle, still has its uses. During a hunt, you can use the Ghillie Mantle to sneak up and perform a Sneak Attack, which deals high damage, especially if you have the Ambush skill. Another great use is hiding yourself while collecting Endemic Life creatures, as they are often skittish and will run away when they see you.
B Tier Mantles
Mending Mantle is currently the worst mantle compared to the other available options. Equipping it instantly recovers a large amount of HP and slowly regenerates HP over time. However, in the endgame, players typically prioritize mantles that increase damage or provide opportunities to stay aggressive.
Not only that, but experienced players become familiar with monster movements, aiming to avoid getting hit altogether. Even when taking damage, the Arkveld set skill can heal you while attacking, making Mending Mantle less necessary.
Mending Mantle is useful for early to mid-game, but in the endgame, it falls behind the others significantly.
How to Unlock All Mantles in MH Wilds

Unlike Monster Hunter: World, obtaining mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds is quite simple, as you only need to progress through the story to unlock them. Here are the details:
Mantle | Unlock Condition |
---|---|
Ghillie Mantle | Unlocked by default |
Rocksteady Mantle | Talk to Gemma after defeating Nu Udra in the main story quest |
Mending Mantle | Talk to Gemma after defeating Xu Wu in the main story quest |
Evasion Mantle | Talk to Gemma after defeating Frenzied Nerscylla in the main story quest |
Corrupted Mantle | Talk to Gemma after defeating Gore Magala in the main story quest |
Will There Be Other Mantles in MH Wilds?
While unconfirmed, it is only logical to add the mantles that were present in World. Other mantles, such as those that specifically reduce elemental damage, would be really useful in the game, especially against element-heavy monsters like Nu Udra, Uth Duna, Rey Dau, or the soon-to-be-added Mizutsune in Title Update 1. We might see new mantles in future Title Updates.
That's everything you need to know about mantles in Monster Hunter Wilds. While this tier list ranks them based on general effectiveness, you should always try each mantle and see which one best fits your playstyle.
