Basic Team Building Guide for Sword of Convallaria

Introduction

Welcome to DotGG's Basic Team Building Guide for Sword of Convallaria! This is a game where individual prowess is crucial (please refer to our Tier List for more information), but it's team synergy and also interplay of characters that truly defines victory. Effective team building is the cornerstone of success in this tactical RPG. In this article, we will look into how you can build a team to help you clear stages in Sword of Convallaria while exploring essential roles, character synergies, and tactical considerations.

This article will guide you through building effective teams for various stages of your Sword of Convallaria journey. We'll provide sample team compositions for early, mid, and late-game content, as well as a high-investment "whale" team for reference. To help you make informed decisions, we'll also share general team-building principles. By the end, you'll have a solid foundation for crafting your own team compositions.

Sword of Convallaria Team

Early and mid-game content primarily involves five-character teams, though some stages may require a sixth. A foundational team typically consists of a tank, healer, mage, and two flexible slots. For your initial tank, Maitha, a free legendary character, is a solid choice. If you lack a more potent tank, she can remain a valuable asset even into the late game.

The free Epic character, Angel, is a highly capable healer who can rival S-tier or A-tier units when built correctly. Given early in the game, her shards are readily available, making her easy to upgrade. Rawiyah, another free character, is a strong early-game option due to her knockback normal attacks. While effective in mid and late-game scenarios, her true potential shines when paired with specific characters, as she offers a leadership aura and Sword of Convallaria faction buff.

If you're fortunate enough to obtain Beryl or Inanna early on, they are excellent additions to a Sword of Convallaria team, benefiting greatly from Rawiyah and Maitha's faction buffs. If you don't have these characters, check out the character we recommended at our Beginners Tips!

Whale Team - Featuring Kingdom of Iria Team

It's tempting to simply assemble a team of high-tier characters, but optimizing team composition goes beyond character strength. Faction buffs, passive skills that boost characters from specific factions, are a crucial factor to consider. Each character belongs to 2-3 factions, and these buffs stack, providing significant advantages beyond basic attack and defense increases. To maximize the benefits, carefully select characters who share factions:

Note: Safiyyah will not be available on the 31st July 2024 launch

For example, my main team leverages faction buffs as follows:

  • Dantalion (Kingdom of Iria faction buff): benefits Himself, Magnus, Safiyyah, and Inanna.
  • Magnus (Iron Wall Mountain faction buff): supports Himself, Dantalion, and Gloria.

By strategically combining characters, you can create synergistic teams that outperform those built solely on character tier. It's worth noting that all the characters mentioned above are considered high-tier in their own right.

General team-building principles

Great video by Youtuber Clint Wulf about Team Building

We have given some specific teams as template, but now our Basic Team Building Guide will look into some general rule-of-thumb for team building. Understanding character roles and synergies is crucial for building a formidable team in Sword of Convallaria. Let's break down the different character classes and their strengths:

Character Classes and Their Roles

  • Breakers: These physical damage dealers excel in combat with their powerful attacks and crowd control abilities. Think of them as your frontline fighters, capable of both dealing substantial damage and disrupting enemy formations.
  • Seekers: Known for their mobility and utility, Seekers can quickly navigate the battlefield and provide various supportive effects. While not strictly damage dealers, they can significantly impact the outcome of battles with their unique skill sets.
  • Defenders: These sturdy units form the backbone of your team, absorbing damage and protecting allies. Their defensive capabilities are essential for surviving challenging encounters.
  • Watchers: As the healers of the group, Watchers are responsible for keeping your team's health topped up. Their support abilities are invaluable for maintaining combat effectiveness.
  • Destroyers: These ranged damage dealers specialize in unleashing devastating attacks from afar. Their high damage output makes them crucial for defeating powerful enemies.

Building Your Core Team

When starting your journey, focus on building a well-rounded team with a balance of roles. Here's a suggested composition:

  • One Tank: A Defender is essential for protecting your team from harm.
  • Two Ranged Units: Having at least two ranged characters, such as Destroyers or Seekers, provides consistent damage output and flexibility.
  • One Healer: A Watcher is indispensable for keeping your team alive during intense battles.
  • Two Breakers: These powerful damage dealers can deal significant damage and disrupt enemies.

Remember, these are general guidelines, and you can adjust your team composition based on your playstyle and the specific challenges you face.

The Importance of Leadership Auras and Faction Buffs

Leadership Auras and Faction Buffs offer significant advantages, so consider their impact when building your team. Characters with these abilities can greatly enhance the overall performance of your squad. Aim to include at least one character with a Leadership Aura in your main team.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading our Basic Team Building Guide for Sword of Convallaria. Hopefully these quick guide will help you clear the stages in the game. Remember, experimentation is key to finding the ideal team composition that suits your playstyle.
