Sword of Convallaria Magnus Character Guide

Magnus

Best build, skills, and guide for Magnus in Sword of Convallaria (SoC).

Notes

Magnus is an interesting character who fills the space between a DPS, a physical tank, and a trebuchet.

His normal attack is a 2x3 AoE in front of him. This gives him some reach and makes him great for hitting bunched up enemies or, even better, enemies bunched up around a barrel.

While you can opt for his strike back reaction (it uses his basic attack, so an AoE), I find that damage reduction on a tank is more useful than strike backs in most cases.

Mountain Breaker is a powerful nuke that, if killing an enemy, refunds 2 NRG to Magnus, which is nice. Whatโ€™s even better, though, is that before unleashing it, it also activates his passive, Cry of Victory, which inflicts [โ–ผATK II] on enemies within 5 tiles of him, while also providing allies with [โ–ฒDMG II]! This passive also triggers whenever an enemy dies within 2 tiles of Magnus (but it can only trigger once per turn).

Lastly, his leader aura for Fortitude characters is incredible, as it provides extra damage reduction and, most critically, removes the debilitating stat penalty for characters who are [Injured].

You can also opt to bring his Forceful Cast skill, which I find is most satisfying when you use it to throw explosive barrels (whether summoned or not) into groups of enemies from a distance! But for most content, the recommended skills will be best.

For gear, Hollow Axe is best for him, as it not only boosts his P.ATK and DEF, but also plays into his trait, which further boosts his P.ATK, based on his P.DEF. His best trinket is Mystery Guardian, as it boosts his already-tremendous P.DEF, while shrugging off any defensive debuffs. Either Hermit (for damage reduction) or Magician (for damage boosting) will serve him well for a tarot. When rolling stats, aim for P.ATK and P.DEF.
