Caris is a strong, if a bit technical in how she plays, DPS. Sheโs based mainly around dealing Piercing and Magical damage to multiple foes simultaneously. So lots of AoEs. She is also the best leader for Papal States characters.
Carisโ trait works as follows: โWhen allies within a certain range use a [Non-Instant] skill, Caris gains 1 stack of [Revelation], up to 5 times per turn. At the start of the turn, if Caris has 9 or more stacks of [Revelation], she consumes 9 stacks to gain [Light Oracle].โ The Revelation stacks are only used for this purpose, and Light Oracle enhances her skills for the turn during which she has the effect active. Basically, as allies use skills near her, she builds stacks of Revelation until she consumes 9 of them to unleash more powerful skills.
There are a few combinations of skills you can use with Caris. The one above is the one I intend to use with her. The first skill, Purge of Sin, is an AoE magic attack that takes a turn to charge up, and then inflicts Caris with a turn-skipping debuff after she unleashes it. You can get around this debuff with her Broad Radiance skill, which can be a useful skill (as it provides [Immunity to Interruption] and a magical shield to multiple nearby allies), but I would advise just keeping her positioned well and protected before she starts charging Purge. This skill also does significant bonus damage to large enemies, like bosses. Its enhanced version hits a larger area afterward and inflicts [โฆธHealing Received] and [โผMove II] on any enemies hit within a 5-tile radius.
Her next skill is Total Punishment, which is a 3x4 AoE that does Piercing DMG based on 50% of Carisโ M.ATK and 20% of the enemiesโ Max HP. The crazy thing is that (at least from what Iโve seen), the M.ATK part of the calculation isnโt reduced by enemies who resist most Piercing DMG. The enhanced version simply does more damage and has a longer reach (3x5). This skill is excellent for destroying enemies with shields or with high defensive stats!
Her leader aura for Papal States increases damage done and decreases damage taken by 12%, and also increases all Piercing DMG done by 12%, including with her own skills, which means this is an excellent skill to take, even if sheโs the only one benefitting.
Also of note is her skill, Crystal Wave Cannon, which does Magical AoE damage, and also inflicts the very rare [โผM.DEF III] debuff. You can pair this with Edda on a magic-heavy team to completely shred the enemiesโ M.DEF!
Her unique basic attack is helpful, as it not only does Piercing DMG, but also provides her with 2 extra stacks of [Revelation]. Itโs enhanced version does more damage and gives 4 stacks instead.
For a weapon, her best option is easily Diffusing Prism, as it enhances both her M.ATK and her magical AND piercing AoE damage! For a trinket, I suggest Roaring Flint, as it fits in with her kit well, as it does AoE Piercing DMG. For a tarot, I suggest Magician, as it directly increases the amount of damage all of her skills do. For engravings, I recommend wand + sword, and when rolling stats, aim for M.ATK.
