Sword of Convallaria Spear of Iria Rayshot Character Guide

Spear of Iria โ€œRayshotโ€

Best build, skills, and guide for Spear of Iria "Rayshot" in Sword of Convallaria (SoC).

Hey guys! Iโ€™ve gotten a few requests over the past day to put out a guide for the new Epic character, Rayshot (or as heโ€™s known in my account, โ€œGarbeliusโ€), so hereโ€™s my guide for him.

Obviously, as an Epic character, he isnโ€™t exactly going to be meta-defining or game-breaking, but his design is rather cool, and I think he has a nice little niche in how he deals damage, so I enjoy using him!

If you have any questions or comments, please let me know!

Overview

Rayshot is a rather unique character in that he deals respectable amounts of Piercing DMG to foes. Because his Piercing DMG is dealt based on his P.ATK stat, rather than based on the enemyโ€™s HP stat, it is not reduced by the usual reductions that percentage-based Piercing DMG is subjected to, which means he can work very well against enemies with high DEF. Overall, he will serve best in situations with multiple low-HP mobs, rather than against single, high-HP bosses.

Trait

Rayshotโ€™s trait, erโ€ฆ [Rayshot], gives him an extra 5-15% HP, allows him to ignore [Block], and gives him [โ–ฒ Move I] and [โ–ฒ SPD II] for 1-2 turns at the start of the battle. When Rayshot is under the effects of any movement or speed buffs, he does 8-20% increased Physical and Piercing DMG. The idea here is to keep him buffed so he gets the extra DMG boost at all times.

Basic Attack

[Howling Whirlwind Slash] launches two attacks in a row; the first one is a single-target attack that does damage based on 25% of Rayshotโ€™s P.ATK, which is then followed by a 1-tile radius AoE attack based on 40% of his P.ATK stat. With proper positioning, he can cause quite a bit of damage to multiple enemies with this, and since itโ€™s his basic attack, he can use it as often as you want him to.

Reaction Skill

Both reaction skills are viable options, but I prefer [Fleeing Hare], since the damage reduction activates every single time Rayshot is attacked and, more importantly, it gives him [โ–ฒ Move II], which activates his trait effect, increasing his DMG output accordingly. That being said, you can use [Preempt] for its Strike Back, since his basic attack is actually quite good. In fact, if you have a reliable source of a movement or speed buff, then youโ€™ll want to consider [Preempt], instead.

Skill 1

For his first skill, I suggest his default skill, [Insightful Bash]. Itโ€™s a respectable physical single-target nuke, which also dispels 2 buffs from the target and inflicts them with [Vulnerable I] for 1 turn before attacking. The nice thing about this skill is that it only costs 2 NRG and, more importantly, has no CD. His other skills have lengthy CDs, but low NRG cost, which means he might have downtime for a few turns, which this skill circumvents. His basic attack isnโ€™t ideal for nuking, so this skill gives him some tactical variety, as well.

Skill 2

For Rayshotโ€™s second skill, [Spear of Iria โ€œAssaultโ€] is a powerful nuke that is based on 90% of his P.ATK, and allows him to ignore [Assisting Cover] (and other assist) effects. For every tile moved before attacking, he also gains 3% P.ATK, up to 15%, which means he gets the most out of this when he has a movement buff (like from his reaction skill). After attacking, he then gains [Dodge] for 1 turn. While this skill only costs 1 NRG, it has a 3-turn CD, which means heโ€™ll only be using it every few turns. This skill, however, has quite a bit of punch to it if set up correctly.

Skill 3

For his final skill, I suggest bringing [Charge Pursuit]. While [Swift Spear Charge] is a better skill, its NRG cost is prohibitive (at least when trying to use it with other skills in his kit), so I recommend [Charge Pursuit], since it has no NRG cost. It is an [Instant] skill that allows him to charge up to 3 tiles and prevents the enemy from using [Preempt] effects. This can be very useful for repositioning Rayshot before using any of his other attacks.

Equipment

For a weapon, I suggest Feast Axe, since it provides the biggest boost to his ATK, as long as you keep his health higher than the enemyโ€™s. Either Tuning Hammer or Gale Sword work well on him, though, as they give lesser, though more consistent, P.ATK buffs. For a trinket, Origin Hourglass has the most synergy with his kit, since you want to focus on giving him SPD and movement buffs anyway, and this will prevent those buffs from being cancelled out by the matching debuffs, while also providing a healthy boost to his P.ATK. Either the Shield of Justice or Maverickโ€™s Cloak can be solid options, as well. For a tarot, Devil is the best, since it boosts his P.ATK stat directly, thus increasing his Piercing DMG output, and since he works best against multiple mobs, there is a natural synergy there. For engravings, he wants Sword + Wand, since it directly boosts his P.ATK stat. When rolling stats, naturally, you will want to give him as many P.ATK rolls as possible.
