MAGIK STRATEGIES
A Duelist Stuck in Limbo
Optimal Magik's shine when they're able to focus on dealing high damage to the enemy team, but melee Duelists are constantly at a disadvantage as they can quickly become overrun by long-range attacks. Luckily, Magik has defensive and evasive capabilities to deal damage safely and efficiently before returning to regroup.
Magik's Stepping Discs ability both serves as a quick retreat and a surprise attack for any enemies that remain in pursuit - a quick Eldritch Whirl or Demon's Rage is a great deterrent as you escape imminent death. Staying alive and healthy means you'll be able to focus on Magik's core strategy: teleport behind enemy lines, wreak havoc and deal devastating damage, and teleport back out before HP hits zero. Magik has a ton of plug-and-play combos, with Umbral Incursion launching enemies upward and Magik Slash allowing her to follow up in the air. Stepping Discs isn't just for retreating either - with a relatively low cooldown, Magik can use the initial proc to increase damage output in the fray and use it again once the ability is back online to escape.
All of this is leading up to Magik's Ultimate ability: Darkchild. Similar to Iron Man's Armor Overdrive or Hulk's HULK SMASH!, Darkchild is a transformation ability that enhances Magik's other abilities, either with more damage overall or slightly more versatile perks. Study the table above to take full advantage of Darkchild, but remember, Magik doesn't gain any additional health in this form - don't let the extra power go to your head!
FINAL THOUGHTS
Magik is a great Duelist, albeit situational. Team-up's with Black Panther and Psylocke aren't very impactful and as a melee Duelist, Magik often finds herself in precarious situations. If you plan on picking Magik up, master Stepping Discs and learn when to retreat and lick your wounds. If there are flyers or long range Duelists on the opposing team, wait for opportune moments to get the jump on them when they land or get within range of your melee attacks. Keep an eye on your health, as 250 isn't going to keep you alive long. When in doubt, pop Darkchild!
