Selection Criteria
To select a budget player, we don't just take into account the player's absolute price in their position. Here is how we select and rank them, in addition to the notes below.
- Regular starting players (even if temporarily)
- Potential to reward attacking returns, Clean Sheets, and Bonus Points
- Price relative to their position in a similar quality of the team that they are in
- Players with decreased prices from their starting price
- Players who can be your main squad, fixture rotators, or bench fodders
- Use this in conjunction with our FPL Meta Tier List as these budget players will also often belong there
Goalkeepers
Name | Team | Price |
---|---|---|
1. Martin Dubravka Fixture | Newcastle | £4.2m |
2. Alphonse Areola Fixture | West Ham | £4.2m |
3. Jordan Pickford Fixture | Everton | £4.5m |
4. Đorđe Petrović Fixture | Chelsea | £4.6m |
5. Neto Fixture | Bournemouth | £4.5m |
6. Dean Henderson Fixture | Crystal Palace | £4.4m |
7. David Raya Main | Arsenal | £4.9m |
8. André Onana Main | Man Utd | £4.8m |
Goalkeeper performance has been interesting this season of the Premier League. Several starting goalkeepers have been sidelined for injury or straight up lost their spot due to poor performance.
For example, Petrović and Dubravka are replacements in a "premium" team that will be there for a little while longer due to injuries to Sanchez and Pope. Raya and Onana could also offer an entry to Arsenal and Manchester United for less than £5.0m currently if you feel inclined that way.
As for the rest, Areola and Pickford are popular picks at lower price points are top goalkeepers right now in terms of points collected this season.
Defenders
Name | Team | Price |
---|---|---|
1. Jarrad Branthwaite Fixture | Everton | £4.1m |
2. Malo Gusto Fixture | Chelsea | £4.2m |
3. Joe Gomez Bench | Liverpool | £4.5m |
4. Harry Maguire Bench | Man Utd | £4.2m |
5. Micky van de Ven Main | Spurs | £4.4m |
6. Sven Botman Main | Newcastle | £4.5m |
7. Dan Burn Bench | Newcastle | £4.4m |
8. Alfie Doughty Main | Luton | £4.5m |
9. Amari'i Bell Bench | Luton | £3.9m |
Defenders are tough in this 2023-24 Season of the Premier League. It's difficult to predict Clean Sheets, and attacking returns are harder to come by below that magical £4.5m mark. Even the top teams are conceding regularly, so it's hard to recommend from sides such as Newcastle or Spurs either.
At this point of the season, price rises have made a lot of "budget" defenders less viable for new transfers such as Udogie or Andersen. Pau Torres didn't make the list here, but when he's back from injury he's worth a look at for £4.6m.
Midfielders
Name | Team | Price |
---|---|---|
1. Cole Palmer Main | Chelsea | £5.9m |
2. Alejandro Garnacho Fixture | Man Utd | £4.8m |
3. Anthony Gordon Main | Newcastle | £6.2m |
4. Pedro Neto 4. Hwang Hee-chan Main | Wolves | £5.6m £5.5m |
5. Douglas Luiz 5. Leon Bailey 5. John McGinn Main | Aston Villa | £5.6m £5.6m £5.5m |
6. Rodri Main | Man City | £5.5m |
8. James Ward-Prowse Main | West Ham | £6.0m |
9. Pascal Groß Main | Brighton | £6.4m |
10. Ross Barkley Fixture | Luton | £4.9m |
11. Bernardo Silva Main | Man City | £6.5m |
12. Anthony Elanga Bench | Nott'm Forest | £5.1m |
13. James McAtee Bench | Sheffield Utd | £4.4m |
14. Tomáš Souček Bench | West Ham | £4.9m |
This is the season of the Midfielders, and there are a lot of options that have been outperforming so far. Every week, it is a headache to pick who to bench, if at all! Palmer and Gordon has stood out the most this season, now very far away from their starting prices, but there is still value to be had.
Other than the two previously mentioned, Neto, Ward-Prowse, and one of the Aston Villa midfielders stand out the most currently. and even Barkley could be worth a gamble as long as Luton continues to bang in goals.
Richarlison and Foden didn't make the list here with our arbitrary cut off, but they do offer great value for their performance so far in the season.
Forwards
Name | Team | Price |
---|---|---|
1. João Pedro Main | Brighton | £5.4m |
2. Matheus Cunha Main | Wolves | £5.7m |
3. Carlton Morris 3. Elijah Adebayo Fixture | Luton | £5.0m £4.9m |
4. Neal Maupay Bench | Brentford | £4.9m |
5. Taiwo Awoniyi Fixture | Nott'm Forest | £6.3m |
6. Zeki Amdouni 6. Fofana 6. Lyle Foster Bench | Burnley | £5.3m £5.0m £4.7m |
The Forward lineup is congested and with Alvarez, Watkins, Núñez, and Solanke able to find their way into a lot of teams with their relatively low prices. These budget options might be good if you want multiple premium players such as Haaland, Salah, Son, De Bruyne, and Trippier all in your team.
Cunha, Neal Maupay, and Luton Forwards are currently in form but João Pedro stands can stand out with Brighton's good run of upcoming fixtures.
Rasmus Højlund is also worth taking a look into at £6.9m currently.
