16th Developer Note: Spring Events and Improvements

Hello. This is Brown Dust 2 PD Junhee Lee.

Before diving into the main content today, I would like to address the improvement direction of the Fiend Hunter that was announced last week. The goal of this Fiend Hunter renewal was to provide the fun of using various characters in different strategies.

While focusing on the enjoyment arising from various strategies, we may not have delicately considered the inconveniences that accompany this process. To resolve the discomfort and deliver the originally intended fun, we have swiftly discussed and decided on the following improvements.

Firstly, there will be an improvement regarding the use of up to 3 combat teams.

Considering that there is still an insufficient variety of characters based on attributes and types, we have determined that requiring the use of three combat teams to clear up to level 10 is causing stress. Therefore, we plan to limit the use of combat teams to a maximum of 2 until level 10. Additionally, we aim to provide a slightly easier difficulty for the Fiend Hunter up to level 10 compared to the original design.

These improvements will be applied starting from the update on February 29th (KST).

The second improvement is related to the retry requirement for critical hit success.
The development team has been contemplating how to improve the fatigue related to this issue. In this Fiend Hunter, using more than one team has led to longer combat times, causing increased fatigue. Despite planning the use of multiple teams to provide enjoyment in using various characters, the intention seems to be overshadowed by the critical hit retry issue. To address this, we are considering a direction that allows strategic use of critical hits. The upcoming update on February 29th for Parakyr Rex will include a mechanism that increases the critical hit probability of characters deployed under certain conditions. In the near future, we plan to improve the Fiend Hunter content to no longer require critical hit retries, allowing for strategic activation of critical hits.

The third improvement is the addition of a mid-battle saving system.
Due to the extended duration of Fiend Hunter battles, the fatigue associated with retrying after making a mistake has increased. To alleviate this, we have determined that adding a convenience system allowing the saving of progress or reverting to a previous state during battles is necessary. However, implementing this system for universal use in other content will take some time, starting from planning to development. Once the review is completed to a publicly shareable level, we will inform you through developer notes.

Lastly, I would like to address the issue of crashes during Fiend Hunter progress.
Thanks to many users who reported the issue, the development team was able to identify situations causing crashes. The use of three combat teams in this update resulted in a memory-related issue, and although QA related to memory usage was conducted before release, there were some shortcomings in addressing various memory usage environments that can occur in real-world usage. We will strive to address this as quickly as possible.

We had prepared a lot of content for the February update. We apologize for the inconvenience caused by not refining the details well compared to the significant changes. I appreciate the valuable feedback on the new growth system, Potential, the long-awaited Story Pack, Fake Game, and the new maids, Liatris and Rubia. In the future, we will prepare more thoroughly to ensure that all content is enjoyable for everyone.

The first season event in March: SCHOOL CRISIS

The first seasonal event in March, SCHOOL CRISIS, will run for two weeks from March 14th to March 28th (KST).

Story
In the season of blooming flowers, the school is in a crisis due to the passionate escapades of couples crossing the boundaries of decorum! Glacia, the inexperienced leader of the disciplinary committee, steps up to disband the couples, but she fails miserably against the unexpectedly fierce resistance.

Ironically, Glacia, now called the 'Solo Queen' by the couples, receives strange glances. In the midst of this, she hears shocking information from Rafina and Teresse, who are in similar to her situations. Amidst all this, she discovers the existence of a cherry blossom tree that grants wishes...

March 2nd season event OPERATION M.O.E

Next, March 2nd season event, OPERATION M.O.E., will run for two weeks from March 28th to April 11th (KST).

Story:
Jayden, the ultimate otaku in school, has lost his M.O.E!
Despite Jayden being in distress as his passion and affection have withered away,
his colleagues liked it, saying he has become quiet.
At the moment when everyone thought, 'Jayden, just stay like this!', a formidable demon once again attacks the school.
As his comrades search for a way to repel the demon, they realize that the only solution is to restore Jayden's M.O.E....

March Pickup Notice
I think many users will have noticed that the two season events taking place in March are set in the school of Character Pack 1.
As you might expect, the concept of March's new costume is school uniform.

Teresse's new costume, which was announced in a previous live broadcast, is also included here.
Along with Teresse in a school uniform concept, Glacia and Rafina are also scheduled to come with school uniform costumes.
Teresse, the nursing student, Glacia, the queen of the Disciplinary Comittee, and Rafina, the gaming otaku.

Future Costume Supply Policy:
Currently, there is a recognition from the development team that there is a shortage of magic-type characters and costumes compared to physical types.
However, for the first quarter of 2024, the focus was on creating event story-based costumes that were planned in the latter half of the previous year. Consequently, a higher number of physical-type characters and costumes were introduced.
We are preparing to introduce magic-type characters and costumes from the second quarter onwards.
As mentioned in the previous broadcast, a new fire-element magic character is also scheduled to be introduced in the second quarter.
Efforts will be made to maintain a balance in character and costume diversity based on type and attributes in future updates.

Mirror War Improvements
Many people gave their opinions on improvements to Mirror War, and the development team continued to hold various discussions.
As a proactive improvement plan, we discussed changing the overall rules, skipping battles, and background battles.
However, we thought that there are many users who are currently enjoying Mirror Wars that we need to thoroughly check on overthrowing the system.
As characters and costumes continue to be added, the combat aspect changes a lot, so we thought that we could provide a variety of fun even if we maintain the existing system.
Therefore, the decision was made to improve the system's completeness while maintaining the basic rules of the current Mirror War so as not to increase the stress caused by PVP content and to avoid harm to users currently enjoying it.

■Matching System Improvements

Reflection of Elo rating system
To briefly explain the Elo system, it is a rating system that compares the victory points of oneself and the opponent and changes the victory points gained/deducted from the battle result as the gap increases.
The existing Mirror War was using a method of earning a certain number of victory points upon victory regardless of the gap with the opponent, and because of this, it was not easy to catch up with users higher than oneself when the gap had already widened.
We have introduced a new rating system to solve this problem and to ensure that you can enjoy the challenge more fully by gaining victory points when you win against a strong opponent.

Before Change
- Victory points earned and deducted are reflected as fixed values depending on the tier you belong to.

After Change
- The points earned/deducted change depending on the score difference with the opponent.
- The larger the score difference with the opponent, the more victory points are earned/deducted.

Matching Pool Improvements
The current matching system in Mirror War is a method of matching random targets within a set range based on one's victory points.
However, as you get closer to the highest level, the pool of opponents you can match with becomes smaller, so you often end up facing the same opponent over and over again.
In addition to reflecting the new rating system mentioned above, we have decided to make improvements to alleviate duplicate matching by expanding the matching pool so that consuming Blood Cocktail is meaningful even at the highest level.

■New Tiers and promotion rewards
Currently, the majority of users are distributed between Platinum and Diamond and always remain in a similar tier, so the fun of moving up the tier is lacking.
To solve this problem, new tiers and upgrade rewards were added to the Platinum - Diamond section.
We plan to make improvements to make challenging your way up as a fun and rewarding experience.
New tier

1. Ruby
It is added between Platinum and Diamond sections.

2. Sapphire
It is added between the Diamond and Master sections.

Promotion Rewards
Upgrade rewards have been added, so you can get a certain amount of rewards each time you increase your tier.
Promotion rewards are given only once each season, and are reset when the season ends.
If your tier drops after the season ends, you can obtain all the rewards of a tier lower than your current tier.
Example) If you drop to Platinum 1 at the end of the season, you will receive all promotion rewards below Platinum.

■ Medal of the Fighting Spirit acquisition amount and exchange center improvement
Previously, the same amount of Medal of the Fighting Spirit was earned regardless of the tier section you were currently in, and the items that could be exchanged for Medal of the Fighting Spirit were not attractive, so there was a lack of motivation to continue enjoying Mirror Wars.
We are also planning to add various items to the Medal of the Fighting Spirit exchange to improve the use of Medal of the Fighting Spirit, which were previously of low value.

■ Improvement Application Schedule
Improvements to Mirror War will be applied through a temporary maintenance on March 18 (KST) in time for the start of the new season to avoid inconvenience caused by system changes in the middle of the season.

Second improvement of Home Menu
Following the previous UI hidden functions and layout changes, the second improvement of the home menu is underway.

■ Fixed/continuous play toggle button for cutscenes addition
The fixed playback (loop) function of cutscenes, which many people have commented on, will be added.
If set to fixed playback, the loop video will automatically be played repeatedly when the cutscene ends.
If set to continuous playback, the next cutscene will be played when the cutscene ends.

■ Touch motion and voice addition
When you touch the standing illustration on the home menu, touch motion and voice will be output.
If you touch the screen while the cutscene loop video is playing, the cutscene audio will be played.

■ Home menu layout quantity increase and random option addition
The number of cut scenes and illustrations that can be placed on the home menu increases from 5 to 10.
An overall random option is also added, and you can also set options to play randomly by specifying only story animation, cut scene animation, and illustrations.

■ Home menu BGM playlist addition
A playlist function has been added to set the BGM of the home menu as desired.
Each BGM is automatically played when you unlock the content.

■ Change of the pop-up display time upon first login
When logging into the game for the first time on the day, pop-ups will not be displayed on the field screen, but pop-ups such as attendance, packages, announcements, etc. will be displayed when entering the home menu.

Addition of option setting function during battle
A cutscene option feature will be added to the pause menu so that you can freely set skill cutscenes during battle.
Along with this feature, a sound option feature and battle statistics feature will also be added to the pause menu.

Field character settings
Previously, the characters used in battle were placed on the field in the same way, making it difficult to see your favorite characters or costumes on the field.
Now, the formations used in the field and in battle are separated, and improvements are made so that you can permanently see your favorite characters on the field.
You can freely set 1 to 5 field characters.

New talent skill 'Overpower' added
A new talent skill 'Overpower' has been added that allows you to subdue battle encounter monsters in the field without combat.
When you activate the talent skill 'Overpower', an icon that can be overpowered is displayed above the head of an existing encounter monster, and when you hit it with a dash, you can immediately obtain a battle reward for that monster.
'Overpower' is added as a talent skill for Teresse and Alec.
We hope that you can carry out field farming more conveniently through 'Overpower'.

4. New Skill Cutscenes of Existing Costumes
We are revealing some of the skill cutscene roughs of the existing 5-star costume.
