DBS Fusion World Sealed Battle Guide – Get Ready for Celebrations Event

Welcome to our guide for Dragon Ball Super Card Game Fusion World Celebrations Event, in which we'll be going over the Fusion World sealed format!

Introduction

The DBS Fusion World Celebrations event is almost upon us! Officially starting from today, the 23rd of April, Celebrations event will be held in stores all across the world (if the product allocation allows for it) and there you'll have the chance to win the very coveted gold foil Goku and Vegeta promo cards!

Celebraton Event Rewards

Before we begin, we have to go over a few important things. The format that we'll be going over today is sealed! It is such a drastically different format that it is better to get you prepared for that one, just in case that your store decides to run a sealed event. Some stores might not have the product necessary to run a sealed event so they might run a constructed event instead. Second, some stores might have held their Celebrations events ahead of time, so your store might have already ran it last week! Make sure to check this with your LGS.

Finally, allow me to briefly introduce myself as this is my debut article here on dotgg.gg! 🙂 I'm Demian, I run The Lookout brand where we cover just about everything Masters and Fusion World related, I've been playing Masters for years, in addition to being an official caster for almost every regional event in the world in 2023. Those are my brief qualifications, now let's get your ready to win the Celebrations event!

The rules

Here's a brief outline of the rules for the sealed format! You can find the full rules here.

  • You build a 30 card deck from 4 packs which you'll buy and open in the store at the start of the event!
  • You can use any leader of your choice. You CAN bring your own leaders with you to the event, this is highly encouraged because you might not pull a leader from your 4 packs!
  • Leaders count as having all names, colors and traits!
  • The specified energy requirement is gone!
  • All cards in your energy create energy of any color!
  • You CAN'T use starter deck cards, besides the leaders!

Alright, those are the brief rules, now let's dig into the guide!

What do we lose?

First and foremost, the lack of starter deck cards is a huge loss! Each color will lose access to some amazing tools!

You're losing all of your amazing starter deck cards! No green ramp, which is massive, and the removal options will now be very limited! But wait, that's not all!

You also lose access to big boss monsters! Closing the games will be much harder without these cards but we'll need to substitute somehow. This impacts our card evaluation going forward!

The best leaders!

Unless your store says otherwise, you can use any leader in the game! Combined with the how leaders work in this format, this opens up amazing deckbuilding possibilities. Here are some very, very good leaders in sealed!

Trunks: Future is phenomenal! Because removal is so limited in sealed, Trunks having free removal, by default, is exceptionally good! Commons and uncommons dominate this format, and the majority of them are 3 cost or less, so you'll be able to deal with most of them (primarily blockers)!

Broly's 25k baseline power shines even brighter in this format! Yes, you will have limited energy, however there are only 11 C/UC cards with 25k power in set 1. Because of this, Broly's massive power will force your opponent to combo most of the time, taxing their hand size! That's amazing!

Most yellow leaders suck in this format! Ginyu requires godly pulls to work, Cooler is plain bad, but Frieza is amazing! While you do lose amazing starter deck cards, you'll still have access to some good blockers, which when combined with your leader's ability will net you a lot of value.

I've briefly touched upon the lack of removal in this format. Beerus fixes that! His Activate:main will both buff your minusing effects, allowing you to easily remove big threats, or lower opposing battle cards to a low enough power where you can remove them by attacking into them with your own battle cards.

A note about rarity and pull rates!

The biggest thing to consider going forward is that you'll only have 4 packs to work with! This guarantees at least 4 rares, with a very slight chance of a super rare. You SHOULDN'T count on opening any super rares in sealed! Going over them, suggesting which ones to play, it completely pointless in this format. All of them are great, if you happen to open any, you're instantly playing it, let's put it like that. Same goes for rares, most of them are good in the format, though some are really bad. This is why we're going to focus mainly on commons and uncommons, the cards that you'll open the most.

Get your super combos!

The first priority is getting your playset of super combos!

Super combos are your defensive backbone and you can run 4 of them. Every single deck should run 4 copies if possible, as the +20k power in defense is massive! However, they are uncommons and you have only 4 packs to work with so you'll likely not open a full playset. Regardless, these are the first cards that you want to add to your deck.

Toss in a bunch of removal!

I did say that removal is very limited in the format but it still exists and, most importanlty, it exists in the C/UC slot! These are your removal options!

Time Skip is expensive, but in a format where majority of the cards are 20k or less, it can hit multiple targets, especially when combined with the Beerus leader! Big Bang Attack is a bit costly due to the energy sacrifice but it removes any non-green threat in the game (except for Goku Black SR). Mafuba is just good in general!

Add some good blockers!

You need to stay alive somehow! Unfortunately, some of the best blockers are from the starter decks, but set 1 gives still has some very strong options in the C/UC slot!

While these can't really compare to the starter deck ones, they do have some amazing utility! Android 17 is just a big 25k blocker, which can be too much for some cards in this format to deal with. Cui won't survive your opponent's turn but it will shut down another potential attacker with his When KO'd ability! Finally, Dr. Rota seems like a bad choice at first glance, but the -10k for the turn is huge as it will disable a potential attacker, especially if your leader is Broly!

Spice it up with good attackers!

We have a couple of good attackers in the format so let's go over them! While there aren't any particularly amazing ones, critical attackers are really good because they deny additional card draw from life!

Vegeta is a bit expensive but we don't really have a lot of critical attackers in the C/UC slot and he does his job pretty well by forcing your opponent to combo a lot or else take a critical hit. The other two are great! Yes, they do fall off when your opponent's leader awakens, but they are still 10k combos which can be used in the later stages of the game!

Wrap it up with extra cards!

Finally let's wrap it all up with some good extra cards! We should prioritize some cheap buffs and, while there's just one of them in the C/UC slot, there are still some solid options!

Crusher Ball is amazing as it replaces itself for by drawing you a card AND you can get rid of a troublesome card. If your opponent is running Frost, for example Crusher Ball is one of the rare few answers it in this format. Both Universe 6 and Universe 7 extra cards are good due to their Activate:Battle effect. You don't really care about Activate:Main, it won't pay off most of the time, but giving +15k to a card in offense or defense is great! Finally, Brother-Sister Combination is the only +20k buff for 1 energy in the C/UC slot. You will never, ever get the second part of the effect to trigger but getting +20k in defense is still well worth the cost!

Summary

Now you should be ready to play (and win) sealed! Prioritize getting your super combos, make sure that you've got plenty of removal, good attacker and if you hit a few of those blockers that's just a huge upside! Remember to check with your store will it run sealed or constructed! Before we end the article, I'll add this video from our channel, The Lookout (like and subscribe), where I go over this topic in further details!

That's it for me today, good luck at your celebration events, I'm rooting for you! Let us know in the comments how it went! 🙂
