Mars is considered one of the top-tier characters that players can acquire in the game. He excels as a premier tank capable of significantly impacting both the early and late game. Let's delve into his kit, explore his best equipment, and highlight his top talents.
We're going to discuss Mars's full build, including skill pages, gear, talents, etc., while talking about teams. Mars is a very good unit; every single one of his skills is effective. No matter how you use him, he's a very powerful unit. Even his passives are great, making him a well-rounded unit that I think almost everyone should try to obtain. He'll significantly aid you in both the early and late game, especially working amazingly well with Lotus.
Who is Mars?
Mars in "Black Clover" has a compelling and complex character arc that unfolds across the series. Initially introduced as a powerful antagonist associated with the Diamond Kingdom, Mars's background reveals a tragic past. He was subjected to intense magical experimentation, which aimed to artificially enhance magical abilities through the implantation of magic stones.
Despite his affiliation with the Diamond Kingdom and his initial confrontations with Asta and the Black Bulls, Mars exhibits a sense of conflict within himself. His encounters with Asta and his friends gradually sow seeds of doubt about the ideology and practices of the Diamond Kingdom.
As the story progresses, Mars's character undergoes significant development. His encounters with Asta, Fana, and other characters lead him to question his loyalty to the Diamond Kingdom and the purpose behind the relentless pursuit of power. Mars's growth is depicted through his internal struggles, the complexities of his past, and his evolving relationships.
Ultimately, Mars becomes a pivotal ally to Asta and the Clover Kingdom, transcending the boundaries set by his affiliation with the Diamond Kingdom. His journey represents themes of redemption, friendship, and the ability to rise above one's past and circumstances, contributing to the overarching themes of the series. Mars's evolution from antagonist to ally showcases the depth of character development and the complexities inherent in the world of "Black Clover.
Mars' Role
Attribute | Class |
---|---|
Technique | Defender |
He functions as a tank, granting provocation with his regular attacks.
He can activate with a high probability of up to 80%, and as it's his regular attack, it enables him to accumulate taunt on the enemy each turn, effectively fulfilling his role as a tank.
He's also capable of causing delay through stun. Using Skill 2 or cooperative skills, he can potentially inflict stun, and increasing his skill levels enhances the activation probability.
His consistent ability to spread stun makes him excellent for creating time to set up strategies.
Recommended Skill Pages
The best in slot is the one providing four up to 8% damage reduction four times. It's excellent for every tank. The other skill pages increase defense, HP, damage res, etc. In terms of team composition, pairing him with Lotus is highly recommended; they synergize exceptionally well together. Mars works best in faster or slower teams, depending on your preference.

Skills and Passives
Skill one gives a 60% chance for taunt, up to an 80% chance. An 80% taunt rate is notably high. Taunt blocks the use of buff skills and increases defense if combined with a skill page, which can be obtained from the Exchange Shop. Skill two has a 60% chance for stun at level five and reduces defense if the stun is successful, making it a potent ability. I wish there was an added effect if the stun fails, but overall, it's quite effective.
You'd want to maximize both of these skills to level five. Skill three applies level three fortify, offering a 34% damage reduction along with a stun increase, elevating stun duration or status element duration. Imagine a two-turn stun; it could be game-changing! His AOE skill has a 40% to 50% chance to stun, while his combo with Lotus provides an AOE that applies all attack with a chance to taunt. Lotus's part guarantees speed reduction, making it one of the best combos in the game. Mars even has a good synergy without Lotus; his entire kit is remarkable.
Moving on to skill priority, you'd typically start with the combo, either with or without Lotus, then proceed with skill two and skill one. The ultimate isn't as impressive because its effectiveness relies on getting the stun and the additional stun duration, which Mars doesn't necessarily need, although it can be bothersome.
Regarding upgrades, focus on skill one primarily. Getting an 80% taunt chance is far superior to the 60%, although the latter is still worthwhile. All his skills are top-notch except for the ultimate, which is more of an A or B grade.
Let's discuss his passives. The unique passive, offering debuff immunity for one turn at the start of combat, is arguably the best skill in the game. It prevents various debuffs, making it invaluable, especially against teams reliant on debuffing strategies. His second passive reduces damage taken by 5%, up to 10% at max dup. Maxing him for CC purposes isn't a bad idea; having a 10% reduction in damage taken is quite significant.
