Granblue Fantasy: Relink, much like the original browser/mobile game, has most of its progression based on grind and repetition. Be it leveling, Mastery Points (MSP), weapon leveling or weapon upgrading materials, there is a lot of grinding to be done.
Therefore, it might be desirable for many players to lessen the weight on farming, be it by optimizing the amount of materials earned in single runs or being able to do as many runs as possible with the least amount of effort possible. This guide will be focusing on the letter strategy of grinding, AFK farming.
For this game there are 2 types of AFK grinding, I'll be referring to them as Full Assist (FA) AFK and True AFK.
Full Assist (FA) AFK
FA AFK, much like the name suggests, is the idea of using the accessibility option of full assist mode to let the main character attack anything that comes near them. It is an easy to apply strategy that becomes possible towards the beginning of mid game, in other words, as soon as you finish the story. However, due to the restrictions the game has where it only allows you to use Full Assist Mode up to extreme difficulty, you will drop this strategy whenever you get to end game grind for higher tiers of difficulty.
This setup works best on smaller arenas such as Gallanza boss fight or any boss that keeps aggressively going towards the characters to hit them. That way the main character will be able to keep dealing dmg, helping clear the fights quicker. Ideally you will want to run this method with a ranged character as your main so that they can keep dealing damage even if the boss isn’t in their face.
Here is what a FA party usually looks like:
- Main character preferably a ranged character such as Rackam and Eugene that can hit targets from longer distances than others. But if you are just getting started, don’t worry about building them just for this yet, any decently geared character can work as long as you leave your strongest ones to the AI to control.
- 1 Healer support that can both heal and provide decent defensive supports, as well as help the other 2 AI controlled characters deal more DMG. For this slot, Cagliostro is most likely the best option, since she can not only heal, but also give quick revive and attack buffs for the other 2 character
- 2 DPS characters: the other 2 slots in the party will need to be your strongest characters so far, most likely your main if it wasn’t Eugene or Rackam.
That being said, the requirements for FA AFK are pretty lax, since you will only be able to use it on Extreme difficulty and bellow, you will have a lot of leeway on party builds. As long as you can kill it faster then kills you, you can AFK it. Your character can also auto dodge everything, so a healer is set in the party composition more so to prepare for TRUE AFK so you don’t have to rework on different characters.
Gear wise, you wont need to worry as much about sustain or defense for the main character because of they perfect dodge by themselves all the time, but a single auto revive can come a long way for consistency's sake. Other useful skills for survivability are regen and nimble defense that buffs your main character whenever it does a perfect dodge. Other than that, you can slot in damage to help kill things, and if you feel like you dying isn’t a concern for what you plan to AFK grind, any form of sustain can be replaced for dmg much like the other characters.
The other characters can be built for dmg all the way in.
My recommendation would be to throw in as many damage sigils as you can, go to the dummy to test them and see if every hit they do comes out with the same numbers.
If every normal attack does the same dmg, every skill dmg does the same dmg and SBA always does the same damage, that means you are hitting the damage cap. In that can, you can switch some damage slots for damage cap sigils to further increase the damage and help speed up things.
FA AFK main character example:
The biggest advantage of FA AFK over TRUE AFK is speed, with FA AFK you can do AFK farming with runs lasting as little as 1 minute, however, you can only rely on that strategy up to Extreme difficulty. That is where TRUE AFK comes in.
True AFK
True AFK is just AFK farming but without relying on Full Assist Mode, not because there is a advantage to not use the mode, but because we cant.
For anything above extreme, aka Maniac and Proud, Full Assist Mode does nothing. However, even if your main character is completely useless, the same can’t be said about the 3 other CPU controlled characters in your party.
To use AFK farming on Maniac and Proud you will need to be strong enough for your 3 CPU characters to carry the run before the main character has died enough times to fail the quest. This method also only works on quests without a damage check and quests that happen on a closed arena. Any quest that requires you to navigate through a level to only then fight a boss will not work with afk farming, since your CPUs won't go anywhere without following the main character of the party.
The party set up is the same as FA AFK, you will need 2 DPS to carry and a support to res/heal main character.
The main difference here however, is that since your main character won’t do anything in the fight, you will want to build them defensively to avoid death as much as possible.
Here are skills that are preferred to have in your True AFK main character:
- HP: Both Aegis and raw HP stats to bring up your HP as much as possible.
- Autorevive: This will give your main character a free death and free HP recover when they get back up. The higher the skill level, the more frequent this skill will be used in the fight
- Guts: Guts will save your life by 1 HP once every 100s of seconds much like Autorevive, having this with a healer like Cagliostro will help you avoid a death.
- Stronghold and Garrison: Both defensive skills, with the former giving you more defense the higher your HP, and the latter giving more defense the lower your hp.
- Regen: Regen will help you maintain a decent % of HP throughout the fight, and in many cases allow you to recover good chunks of HP when the boss is focused on the other characters.
- Low Profile: will make your character less likely to be targeted by the boss.
TRUE AFK Main character example:
Character wise, basically any character can fill the role of MC. And the same goes for the 2 DPS slots the CPU will control.
However, I strongly recommend using Cagliostro as the support, since she not only has a unique DEF buff with phantasmagoria that stacks with any other def buff you might bring with the other 2 CPUs. But she also has a great area heal and will focus on main character HP, and even better, she has an on demand instant AoE revive. Which, when comboing together with autorevive will help you cheese your critical HP letting your main character die as many times as needed before the CPUs kill the boss.
Other notable characters to bring to the party are:
- Katalina, who has many decent defensive and mitigation skill, and the only character with a party wide invul across the entire map. Although, be aware that her invul isn’t as reliable on a CPU as Vanes one, since she needs Aries to be active to be able to share it with the party.
- Vane, has amazing damage to be used as your CPU, and a invul bubble that will help the entire party survive through mechanics
- Captain, who can be used as anything due to having access to heals and regens, as well as defense with phalanx and substitute. Not to mention decent damaging abilities to help the party get through the fight faster.
Conclusion
In conclusion, Relink is a very grindy game that can be streamlined by using FA AFK farming on content from easy to extreme, and TRUE AFK on Maniac and Proud. But do keep in mind that after 10 clears through auto quest repeat, the game will ask you if still want to repeat the quest, and if there is no answer in 40 seconds, it will send the player back to the city.
