PvE Progression Guide: Strategies to Never Get Stuck in Warcraft Rumble!

Essential Warcraft Rumble tips and tricks you need to know for optimal PvE progression.

Although most people only talk about PvP as a true measurement of skill in a games nowadays, I like to take on a good PvE challenge from time to time. In that regard, I believe Warcraft Rumble has done a good job, as their PvE campaign mode is both quick to play (a boss fight being two to three minutes on average), and a real puzzle once reaching the higher Heroic difficulty levels.

However, there is one big issue with PvE compared to PvP: there is no way to play with capped level of cards. Once you defeat a zone, there is nothing more to gain there, and you move on to the next one you unlocked, featuring bosses with an extra level. Pretty quickly, you will enter zones with bosses around level 15 or so, and are encouraged to have cards of a similar level.

The issue is, at some point, it takes quite a bit of time in order to get a card to the next level, so your entire deck could represent many hours of play. Then, if you are the kind of players who enjoys a little diversity, and wants to change the card they are playing with from time to time, you suddenly need a lot of time available.

In this guide, I will try to highlight the strategies you can use to limit said time, and maximize your PvE experience in Warcraft Rumble.

Level up the right cards to keep up with the increase in difficulty

The biggest difficulty in order to keep going in PvE is to always have cards levelled enough to take on the next challenge. Indeed, with every new zone raising the bar by a level, it can quickly be difficult to keep up when each card requires several thousands of experience points for each level. Here are a few tricks you can use in order to level your cards more effectively:

Buy Minis from the G.R.I.D. to get a high collection level quickly

The amount of experience one gains when completing a quest, buying a new Mini, opening a Tome or playing a PvP battle is based on their Collection Level. The higher it is, and the more experience you will receive in the future. Then, it is very advantageous to build that collection level early on to maximize how much experience we will get while playing.

The best way to do so is to buy new Minis, which grants many more points than gaining a level on one you own. Plus, 90 Coins isn't that much, so you can quickly gain a few levels from purchasing multiple figurines at once.

Focus on upgrading a few select cards you will routinely use

This is no magic, but as we enter the realm of levels 14 to 20, cards will start to take some effort in order to gain another level. Then, if we want to keep the ball rolling, we might have to focus most of the available experience on those cards. The crucial part here is picking the right cards for the job. You're in luck, as we have an article dedicated to the top ten cards in both PvE and PvP here:

You could also use what I like to call the "Pokémon technique" and invest into just one card which you will try to summon over and over in every fight. It might work, but you would really need a super specific deck, and would have to level a lot of other cards once that strategy wouldn't work anymore.

Otherwise, a small group seems to work much better. Here are four cards which I believe are great to invest in, as they can work for most decks: Necromancer , Quilboar , S.A.F.E. Pilot and Stonehoof Tauren .

Use PvP to level your cards

A win in PvP is about the best experience to time ratio you could get, except if you are able to farm quests extremely fast and not get bored doing so. While you might want to keep your top three leaders out of this in order to not ruin their honour score, you can definitely use the low score ones for this. Indeed, most leaders are pretty easy to get to 1,000 points, which could bring you a lot of needed extra experience points on your desired cards.

The "One-Trick Pony" strategy

We'll discuss why this strategy could cause you to stall down the line with Heroic challenges later on. For now, finding your comfort leader, and investing all your time in levelling, adding talent to their deck could be a valid strategy.

At least to get through the PvE zones where you can beat the boss simply because you are three levels higher than they are, which can be done for a lot of bosses, especially if you pick the right leader for the job. If you also want to play PvP for example, you could build a deck that would serve for both modes, and then levelling those cards only will mean your deck is constantly at a good level for PvE as well.

Not all leaders are fit for this role, though, as you would be looking for a deck able to do well in PvP, as well as dominate PvE too. Here are a few ideas you can explore:

  • : PvP heavy deck, but Unbound and Stealth are excellent Traits in PvE as well once you understand how to leverage them:

  • : Summoning Skeleton Mages on repeat is really strong in both modes:

  • : The queen of standalone good cards strategies, perfect to play both modes as Sylvanas herself will be the core of the strategies at all times:

Overall, both Undead leaders are looking like the best two right now for this kind of strategy, and also in general.

Don't underestimate Spells and Army Upgrades

Apart from levelling your cards, you can also raise the power of your cards thanks to the Dungeons granting new Army upgrades when you clear their three stages. Then, you might want to look at picking Army Upgrades which you will be able to allocate to the same card on multiple leaders.

Here are some upgrades which will benefit any leader and can be picked safely, as this type of cards will always be in a deck one way or another:

  • Cycle : Absolutely every deck will play cheap cards, especially with this being the best cost for tanks in the current metagame. , , … we have many choices for this one.
  • Elemental : There are so many units with this trait, it should fairly easy to find one to include in your deck. Plus, we got or we want to abuse already.
  • Tank : and already fit the bill, and you would rather play two tanks than none if one of these would already benefit from another upgrade.

The second thing we can do to help our PvE experience is to have a rotation of a few Spells to include in our. Considering the amount of units in the game, except if you find one you will use for most bosses, it is usually difficult to warrant levelling it. This mean we typically won't have much flexibility in the units we are using, especially once we reach the high levels, except if we have time to farm experience on one regularly. The problem is, units use their level to gain health and damage output, meaning their level is a direct indicator of their power.

Spells can present a similar issue, but it is one much easier to solve. Indeed, because there are only ten spells in the entire game, we are almost guaranteed to see that spell be useful in many situations if we invest experience in it. I mean, the amount of cards tells us there aren't other alternatives anyway in the game. Then, the difference in impact it will have to level four spells compared to four units is massive, as the risk of not using a spell in the future is minimal compared to a unit.

Polymorph,Blizzard,Arcane Blast,Cheat Death

As such, even if you will rarely play more than two spells in your deck, and S.A.F.E. Pilot will typically be one of those, don't refrain from levelling , , or , as they should all come in handy at some point in your journey.

Build a cohesive team of Leaders for Heroic Missions

Once you unlock the Heroic challenges, you will see the game rewards you for being able to beat those challenges with one Leader for each faction. If you make it with one leader, you get rewarded with a Tome to level your cards. Once you completed the challenge with all five factions, you get a nice stack of gold.

Considering Heroic challenges are amongst the best ways to quickly level cards, we want to get those perks in order to keep progressing our collection, and push further in PvE as a result. However, this means we need a leader from each faction at least to level twelve, and that is just to take on the first Heroic zone.

Up until this point, most of my recommendations have been to focus around a limited amount of cards, so we could make sure we had a chance of keeping up with how the game keeps raising the bar from a zone to another.

This piece of advice could still work, as you could very well build a deck of six cards you would use with most leaders, and get away with it, especially with cards a few levels above the boss as you levelled those specifically. Plus, you would even get the bonus of developing a habit of playing said deck on repeat, with just your Leader changing.

Some cards could allow you to do this, , , … There are at least four or five cards you could make a case could go alongside most leaders, and allow you to run through most Heroic challenges once those have a higher level than the boss you are facing. However, this would lead to making the game be pure farming at this point, and it's hard to make every leader work in that scenario, as some are much more synergistic than others.

Here are the best standalone Leaders, which can work with a "strong cards" kind of team:

  • or for the Undeads can be considered amongst the best overall heroes for strong standalone cards strategies.
  • for the Horde, although it will be situational help as Grommash needs to be surrounded for the Bloodlust part of the figurine to matter.
  • for the Beast faction, as it works great in strategies with cheap units and a solid gold income
  • for the Alliance, as , and both are pushing their own agenda when it comes to the synergies you might want in their deck.
  • in Blackrock, so long as you have strong spells to play in the deck as well.

In this list, we can already see some Leaders won't contribute too much to their deck, and would rather be considered just a solid Mini, which won't bring too much to their team overall. These aren't necessarily the best leaders in their faction, but if we want to be able to make a deck which can defeat a boss without spending days in PvP to level an entire build, we need to make sacrifices.

For example, I think both Tirion and Maiev are stronger than Jaina, but they both require you to play a certain way around them. Now, you could pick one of the two and exclusively level their deck to defeat normal PvE, but you then would have to go back to the drawing board when it will be time to take on the Heroic challenges for the other factions. Similarly, and his flying army likely is stronger than , but suffers from the same issue.

Abuse Unbound and Flying Minis

Apart from a few select Minis which seem a bit stronger than the rest and can make your deck good in any situation, a good PvE deck is mostly one able to take advantage of the boss's weaknesses. Yet, as we discussed multiple times already, the point of this guide is to help you keep progressing in PvE, rather than having to stop to level new cards every other day to match a boss specific issues. In this scenario, the Unbound and Flying Traits are great to capitalize on, as they will give you plenty of flexibility to work with in your deck, as well as often being easy to leverage in PvE.

I already mentioned , or on several occasions, but and could easily join this list as well. Indeed, all of those Minis are great at leveraging much more than their cost would indicate.

trait=Flying

Flying units will prey on melee attackers, and represent excellent defenders to also build your counter attack with full health units.

trait=Unbound

Unbounds on the other end, can support your troops anywhere, particularly when you are trying to push for the kill, or control the gold on the map, a key element to building momentum in PvE.

Meat Wagon

Long ranged units could also join that list, but require a little more organisation to leverage in general. Yet, don't refrain from building around those either.

Closing Words

Not hitting a wall in a mode where you are constantly required to level up, yet the level gets increasingly hard to obtain, is impossible. However, controlling for how long this wall will be up, and finding different things to do while we are waiting to take it down, is up to us. Through PvP, smart upgrades and establishing a game plan early on, we can greatly decrease the wait at each stage.

Lastly, keep in mind PvE in Warcraft Rumble is designed to encourage a lot of grinding to be done, so finding a leader, or two, you enjoy playing with will go a long way into keeping your sanity while you try to defeat the many bosses waiting for you.

I hope this guide helped with crafting a strategy for Warcraft Rumble's PvE mode, and may you have fun playing the game!

Good Game Everyone.
