11th Developer Note: October update and direction for the second half of the year

Hello. I am the Producer of BrownDust2, Jun-hee Lee.

It's been a while since the 100th day anniversary broadcast.
I want to say thank you for the encouragement and interest you have shown after watching the broadcast.

In today's developer note, I will talk about the plans for two updates on October 11th and October 25th (UTC).

We would like to provide you with more detailed information about the future direction of new content that we mentioned in the 100th day anniversary broadcast.

To ensure that the affection that users have shown to Brown Dust 2 is not wasted,
We aim to provide things to do in a variety of ways, including content that allows you to experience and motivate growth, and content that allows you to freely express your own emotions.

First, let me tell you about the updates planned for October.

**1. New Pickup Preview (After October 11th (UTC) update)**

Ventana's ""White Snow"" costume in the ""Rou's Labyrinth"" pack appears as a new pickup.

In addition, Angelica's original costume, “The Fallen” which many people have been waiting for, is making a surprise appearance as a new pickup.

I also want to quickly see the costumes of the two female swordsmen who were popular since BrownDust 1 (A.K.A. Brave Nine).

The costumes will be registered as a product of the Powder of Hope Shop after the pick-up period ends.

**2. Justia Pass (After October 11th (UTC) update)**

Justia Pass will be added through the update.
If you complete all of the Justia Pass missions, you can obtain Justia’s basic costume, ‘White Reaper’.
While the Justia Pass is in progress, Justia's ‘Blood Glutton’ costume item will be added to the Golden Thread Shop. (Edited on Oct. 5th 9:41am)
We hope you can obtain Justia's various costumes during the event.

**3. Darkness Devourer Hunting Period**

The Darkness Devourer hunting period begins in the 'Jayden's Gate' pack.
We will guide you through important information and strategy tips for hunting Darkness Devourer.

- After completing the main quest of the Character Pack 1 ‘Jayden’s Gate’, you can proceed with the Darkness Devourer hunting.
- The Darkness Devourer hunting period lasts for a total of 7 days from the start date.
- The world buff ‘Season of Light’ is applied while hunting Darkness Devourer. When light property damage is inflicted, double damage is applied.
All parts of Darkness Devourer have darkness property, so we recommend that you actively use light property characters.
- The Darkness Devourer uses magic damage to attack allies. If your team's survivability is low, you can respond by increasing magic resistance.
- Attacking the weak spot at the back of the Darkness Devourer’s body can cause 3 times the damage.
- The Darkness Devourer receives stronger damage in the later turns. Characters that can inflict strong damage must survive for a long time in order to inflict higher damage.

The difficulty of the lower level sections was set to be low so that as many people as possible can receive the rewards.
On the other hand, the upper level sections are composed of high levels of difficulty that stimulate the desire for challenge.
Well, I hope you enjoy the first experience season of the Fiend Hunter, Hunting the Darkness Devourer.

Additionally, we agree with the opinions of users that the preparation period for hunting fiend is long, and we are reviewing ways to improve it.
We are reviewing several directions, including shortening the cycle of content, providing practice battles, and adding other content that can be enjoyed during the hunting preparation period. We will inform you again as soon as the plan becomes concrete.

We also received various opinions about the appearance of the Darkness Devourer.
It seems that people are having different opinions sue to its bizarre appearances and scary animations.
Among the character packs that will be updated in the future, there is also a horror-themed pack, so I'm a little worried that users will be too surprised.
BrownDust2 will continue to pursue its strengths of expressing as many different concepts as possible within one game.
We will be careful to avoid creations that are too hateful.

**4. Character pack difficulty update (After October 11th (UTC) update)**

In the character pack, like the story pack, the multi-play feature that allows you to play higher difficulty levels of the main quest will be updated.
In the character pack's Hard and Very Hard difficulties, you can proceed with the main quest with your existing companions, not the temporary companions.

Unlike the existing normal difficulty, which provides pure strategy fun through limitations on companions,
Hard and Very Hard are set to difficulty levels that can only be cleared by utilizing the companions you have developed.
We plan to provide the fun of clearing with the companions you have.

**5. Draw record (After October 11th (UTC) update)**

The system to check recent draw records and cumulative probabilities will be updated.
You can check the results of costume and gear draws conducted within the last 7 days.
After the system is updated, the draw probability is recorded cumulatively without initialization.
You can check by comparing the probability indicated on each draw banner with the draw probability of your personal account.

We will continue to strive to provide detailed information on probability.

**6. New story pack ‘Homunculus’ update (After October 25th (UTC) update)**

In Story Pack 9, ‘Iron Mask’, Justia and her party, who welcome a strange yet familiar colleague, notice that Cocytus is plotting a plan by mass producing blood imprints.
They set out to meet a wizard with special abilities to uncover the secrets of the technology.

What choices will the party make in the rapidly changing war against the warlock?
What is the truth that the party must accept?
We would appreciate it if you could enjoy the adventure in Ellam, the gorgeous city featured in Story Pack 10.

In particular, in this story pack, you can meet ‘Diana’, a homunculus technology expert whose rough illustration was revealed in the 100th day commemoration broadcast.
Diana is an original character from BrownDust2 and can be recruited at the pub in Story Pack 10.
We ask for your continuous interest unique fun and charm of 5★ buffer Diana, who supports her allies with a new type of buff skill.

**7. Tower of Desire Update (After October 25th (UTC) update)**

The second content of the Evil Castle, ‘Tower of Desire’, will be updated.
Many adventurers are still taking on the challenge of exploring the castle's towers.
The Tower of Desire is a tower named after Dominus Octo ‘The Night of Desire’ Asmode.
It is said that anyone who enters this tower will be captivated by the illusion of endless wealth and cannot escape.
Along with this, the existing tower was also renamed as ‘Tower of Pride’, nicknamed after ‘Night of Pride’ Lucius.

Tower of Desire is pure PVE content with no competitive elements, and a total of 100 floors will be added through the first update.
Monsters that appeared in the story pack appear as enemies on each floor, and enemies with different concepts appear on each 10th floor.
Additionally, you can obtain one Draw Ticket as a reward for clearing each floor.
If you complete the challenges of the boss battles arranged on each of the five floors, you can obtain Diamonds and Ancient Crystals as rewards.

Please challenge yourself at the Tower of Desire, where you can climb higher and higher and feel the growth you have made so far.

Next, I will tell you about the direction of the update in the second half of 2023.

**8. Interaction between users / Honor rewards**

BrownDust 2 was designed as a single-player RPG that can be enjoyed alone,
However, for users who have completed all of the single-player content and for those who wish to interact with other users, we would like to add content that allows interaction with other users.
To this end, we plan to first add the 'friend system' and 'my information' UI to lay the foundation for exchange, and we will add various multiplayer contents further.
For users who mainly play single-player, disclosing information may be burdensome, so we plan to support an option to selectively keep detailed information private.

In addition, we are planning to add new honor rewards for users who have achieved outstanding results in existing ranking competition content.

**A. Titles**
You can obtain titles by achieving certain achievements.
The title you have acquired will be displayed in various UIs, including ‘My Information’.

**B. Statue**
We plan to add a statue for those who ranked 1st to 3rd in ranking competition content such as Mirror War or Evil Castle in the corresponding pack to honor their achievements.

**C. Trophy**
We are also considering rewards such as trophies that can be displayed in a personal space.
I will continue to talk about this in the ‘My Room’ section below.

**9. Complementing field contents and Talent Skills**

Even though many users chose adventure as the strengths of Brown Dust 2,
Most field control elements such as traps and puzzles have been excluded in consideration of the convenience of one-handed play and hassle-free movement to the next quest.
Even considering that it was an update for the convenience of the mobile environment,
it is true that the emotions and fun of adventure have decreased as field content has been deleted,
so we have put a lot of thought into it to provide again the emotions of RPG and the fun of adventure through field play.

First, we are reviewing how all field Talent Skills can be used meaningfully.
Even if the talent skills are the same, we plan to diversify the performance of each character to make all companions’ talent skills meaningful.
For example, unlike Layla, Fred cannot craft UR equipment, so his Talent Skill value decreases in the later stages.
We are considering ways to provide differentiated value through balancing.
For example, increasing the probability of making top grade SR gear or lowering the amount of Ability Pill usage.
In addition, we are trying to find the original fun of talent skills by examining various possibilities, such as adjusting the balance of cooking and stealing, and remaking Gray and Rafina's trap detection with new functions.

We are also reviewing the fun that comes from on-field manipulation and movement elements.
We are currently considering ways to revive excluded systems such as the dash function and speed boost provided in the closed beta and add content that can be enjoyed by utilizing those functions.

Rather than simply reviving features, our goal is to improve it in a way that adds to the real fun of the field.

After introducing the PC client, I became greedier about field manipulation elements,
We plan to review ways to satisfy both one-handed operation in portrait orientation on mobile devices and delicate two-handed operation on PC clients.
And even if the above improvements are applied, we will make sure that our players can play without inconvenience with automatic movement when playing the main quest on normal difficulty.

We will prepare well and present it to you so that you can be fully satisfied and enjoy the contents.

**10. My Room (tentative name)**

Lastly, we will inform you about the housing system that is currently being prepared.
As BrownDust2 is receiving good reviews for its field graphics, many people are looking forward to the housing system.
After reviewing various options, we concluded that it would be somewhat unsatisfactory to configure the system with only one type of housing.
Accordingly, we plan to sequentially update various types of housing content in the future.

For the first update, we are planning a My Room (tentative name) system that allows you to decorate multiple rooms in small units.
You can view multiple rooms, including your friend's My Room, at a glance without long loading times.
This is a form that allows you to freely decorate your rooms according to your desired concept.
Additionally, if you acquire the above-mentioned trophies as an honor reward, we will also provide the ability to display them in My Room.

In the future, it will be in the form of a hideout where groups such as guilds can gather and decorate together.
We are considering various types of housing, such as providing a form that combines lifestyle content such as gathering.
We want users to feel and enjoy the emotions they felt for the first time through great field graphics.
We will prepare and present various types of housing.

This is all we have prepared for today.

We have showed you the roadmap for the second half of 2023 through the 100th day broadcast.
I think the most important thing for the development team to do now is to create and present the contents well.
There's a long way to go, but I decided to cheer up a little bit as I see Rou celebrate the 100th day of BrownDust2.
