19th Developer Note: Notice on the first update in May

Hello. This is Jun-hee Lee, the PD of Brown Dust 2.

Today, I would like to first tell you about the developer note plan for May.
As you may have noticed from the title, we plan to write the developer notes twice in May.
In this first developer note, which you are reading now, we will cover the updates for the first half of May.
On May 17th, we will be talking about the collaboration and delivering a second developer note containing the update.
We are aware that many of you are looking forward to the collaboration IP.
I also want to announce it quickly, but due to contractual issues, it is difficult to announce it today. Thank you for your understanding.

We are working hard to meet the expectations of our users, so please wait a little longer.

Now, let's begin with the first developer note of May.

Story Pack 13 Song of Snow

Justia falls after a bloody fight with Cocytus.
The moment she opened her eyes in a desperate situation, what unfolded was not an Eckshire forest, but a pure white snowy field.
Story Pack 13 'Song of Snow', a story as unpredictable as a snowstorm in the mountains, will be updated.

In an unknown world, Justia has to face the tragedy of a monster attack again in a small town that somehow makes her nostalgic.
What lies where the tip of the sword of noble mission is pointed should be the truth.
For some reason, the more she cuts down evil, the more the situation around her becomes of a labyrinth.
What will be the new 'resolution' that Justia will make at the end of this unique journey?
Check it out in Story Pack 13.

New character Loen update
Loen, the last survivor and protector of a world that was destroyed while fighting against the Seekers of the Apocalypse, will be updated as a new character.

Loen first appeared in the main story of the Last Night content as a high-ranking summoner who wields dimensional power.
There were many people who wanted Loen as playable character.
So, the development team has decided to release Loen as a fire attribute magic character.

As mentioned in the previous developer note, as a summoner, Roen has a skill concept that summons the power of fire and delivers a powerful blow to the enemy.
As Loen is a new character, you will be able to see various stories and costumes in addition to the basic costume in the future.
We ask for your continuous interest.

[Rerun] Season Event Idol Fantasm

The rerun of the seasonal event, 'Idol Fantasm', will be held from May 9th to May 23rd.
'Gridlin, the Archdemon of Greed', which was previously a Darkness property, will be changed to a Light property, providing the fun of a different strategy.
At the same time as the event rerun, B-Rank Idol Eleaneer pickup will also rerun.
As the Idol Fantasm season event progresses, a Darkness property world buff will be applied.
Please use it strategically in general battles and Fiend Hunter battles.

Pickup information for the first half of May
We will inform you of the detailed pickup schedule for costumes and exclusive gear for the new character Loen mentioned above and the B-Rank Idol Eleaneer.
* The Pick up costume will be registered as a product at the Powder of Hope shop after the pickup period ends.

Companion UI improvements
With the improvement, you can more conveniently manage the status and gear of your companions.
We will introduce improvements for each tab included in the new colleague UI.

Tab 1: Replacing Companion
- Attribute and physical/magic type filters have been added to the top, making it easier to find companions of the desired type.
- The automatic battle formation placement feature has been added.
If you press the 'Auto-placement' button at the bottom right, the formation will be automatically formed in the order of the combat power of your current allies.

Tab 2: Gear Management
- Improvements will be made so that you can check and replace the gear of your companions included in the current battle formation at a glance.
- A bulk release function for gear will be added. By pressing the ‘Batch Release’ button at the bottom right, you can release the gear of all companions included in the battle formation at once.
* It is also possible to collectively remove the gear of only one specific companion from the companion information UI.
* By clicking on the companion's portrait in the Gear Management tab, you can enter the companion's information UI.

Tab 3: Formation Management
- Change the battle formation in the companion UI even without entering the battle,
Improvements will be made so that changes can be applied directly to presets.
- You can manage formation presets by pressing the preset button at the bottom right.
You can load saved presets and edit them right away, or copy existing presets.
The ability to set icons for each preset will be added to make it easier to identify the preset that suits the situation.

Gear Bulk Enhancement
Previously, in order to obtain refining powder efficiently, gears had to be strengthened individually and then dismantled.
A bulk reinforcement function has been added that allows you to select equipment and strengthen it all at once.
You can directly select gears to strengthen or select gears with specific conditions in bulk through filters.
You can enhance up to 50 pieces of gear at once.

Gear UI improvements
Several improvements are being made to the gear UI to help you manage your gear more efficiently.
- Icons related to device information have been added to the gear thumbnail, allowing you to check important information without having to click on each gear individually.

The icons added are as follows.
* Normal - Legendary and exclusive grades indicated
* Gear basic options, additional options indicated

- Icons related to gear information have been added to the gear thumbnail, allowing you to check important information without having to click on each gear individually.
- A shortcut button is added to move directly from the gear creation UI to the gear inventory UI.
- Gear that can be produced in the gear creation UI is sorted by grade.
- The logic of the auto-equipment function will be improved.
Previously, automatic equipment was performed only on empty gear slots.
After the improvement, stronger gear will replace the currently equipped gear in all slots, slots that are already equipped with gears.
- A feature that allows you to view popular gear for each companion's equipment part will be added.
You can see what gear other people often equip their companions with.

Automatic skill function improvement
Many people have commented that it is inconvenient to use the auto skill and auto battle functions because the last costume is saved at the end of the battle.
The costume set when entering battle has been improved so that it does not change regardless of the outcome of the battle.
Therefore, when using the auto skill and auto battle functions, you will no longer need to set up the costume you want to use again every time.
We will be more careful in the future to ensure that new features are not added in a way that is inconvenient to use.

Season Pass improvement
Improvements are being made to make it easier to achieve the various passes currently in progress.
- The Gear Pass will end, and the rewards from the existing Gear Pass will be included in the season pass rewards.
If you complete the new season pass mission, 'Disassemble Gear 1 time', you can obtain a 'Pass Material Box'.
When you open the pass material box, you can obtain slightly higher rewards than the existing Gear Pass.

Newbie Pass addition
The missions and rewards of the Newbie Pass will be expanded so that those who are new to the game can get used to it more quickly.
- Steps 2, 3, and 4 are added to the newbie pass, which previously only had 1 Step.
Each time you clear the mission of each step, you can receive various rewards, such as a costume Draw Ticket and a Guaranteed Draw Ticket for UR exclusive gear.

Mission improvement
Daily and weekly missions will be reorganized.
The overlap between each mission will be removed and improvements will be made to make it easier to perform while maintaining the existing rewards.
Additionally, when performing the 'Number of Daily Mission Accomplishments' mission, previously, you had to complete other missions and receive rewards so that missions will be counted.
So, there was the inconvenience of having to press the Get All Daily Missions button twice to receive all rewards.
To solve this problem, the 'Daily Mission Achievement Count' mission can be cleared just by performing other missions.
We have improved it so that you can receive all mission rewards with just one click of the Get All button.

Field Quest Quick Reward
There were many comments that playing new field quests was a refreshing experience, but repeating the same actions every day during the season event was boring.
The development team was always worried about whether to balance the difficulty level based on a one-time fun play experience or based on the so-called 'click' that is repeated every day.
We plan to add a quick completion feature to field quests to solve both a fun play experience with moderate difficulty and the boredom of repetition.
The quick completion function is similar to the quick battle added to Field Hunter.
You can immediately obtain rewards based on the highest score achieved up to the previous day.

Cutscene update
Helena’s basic costume, 'Top Idol' skill cutscene will be updated.
As an idol at the top of the Brown Dust worldview, please look forward to Helena's skill cutscenes, which show off both her nobleness and cuteness.
We will continue to update the cut scenes of her remaining companions.

This is the end of the update we have prepared for today.

Before concluding the developer note, I would like to share the development team's thoughts on this Refithea balance adjustment.

Before proceeding with any update, the development team goes through sufficient planning review and balance QA procedures.
However, there are cases where problems are discovered before and after updates, contrary to what the development team expected.
In such cases, we want to focus on the essence of the problem.
As mentioned in the previous announcement, the values set for Refithea's initial planning were judged to be acceptable in terms of balance.
If Refithea had been released alongside characters included at launch, it would have been fine. However, as the game is currently live, we realized belatedly that the losses incurred by users who adjusted the sub-options of existing gear to match the rules of the current game were greater than anticipated by the development team.
Therefore, we conducted a reevaluation by adjusting the critical damage reduction, damage taken reduction, SP consumption, etc., among the intended values to align with the value of 5 star costumes.

Separate from the Refithea skill balance this time, there was also discussion within the combat balance team about lifting the limits on ATK, Magic ATK, Crit DMG, etc.
However, while there was a suggestion to release Refithea with the same skills after lifting the Crit DMG limit, as adjusting stats or rules that apply to the entire game can lead to unforeseen issues, the consensus was to take more time and carefully review the direction.
Continuing the live service inevitably leads to situations where not all users are satisfied due to new systems or policy changes.
Adjusting these to a satisfactory level is the responsibility of the developer. As the game continues to evolve and similar situations may occur in the future, the development team will review more diligently to make the most appropriate choices.
It would have been best to proceed with updates that would please all users from the beginning. There is no excuse for insufficient review by the development team. I apologize once again for the confusion caused to users.
I also wanted to address the change in age rating. Since the announcement, many users have sincerely expressed their concerns and have provided support and encouragement.
Reading each and every word from users made it feel as if we were not just a developer and users but rather colleagues working together to create Brown Dust 2. I hope we can continue to work together in the same direction and create Brown Dust 2 together in the future.
