Banner Guide – Code Name S Scheherazade (rerun)

Official Patch Notes

Overview

The only costume that dispels buffs AND silences

Schera is the only character who can continuously remove buffs every turn if you have multiple costumes

Weird AOE is difficult to use effectively, and limits placement options

Not the strongest damage compared to other water attackers

Other than the silence, Code Name S is very similar to base Schera

Schera for PVE

Schera is one of the main characters in the Brown Dust 2 story, and her base costume is one of the first 5-star costumes that you will encounter in story mode.

Code Name S (CNS) is something of a sidegrade to Schera's base costume, Lapis Witch. Both remove buffs, have a 3-tile range and deal similar damage. Base Schera has slightly lower damage than CNS (3x225% vs 3x230%). Base Schera's AOE hits a straight line of 3 tiles, whereas CNS has a "boomerang" shape.

So are these differences worth it to make a big investment in CNS? The answer is that CNS is nice to have, but not necessary to have.

In most PVE battles, small range silence skills are not all that important. This is because almost all players will recruit Fiend Scholar Olstein from the Ch4 story pub, because of his dispatch ability. In combat, Fiend Scholar Olstein is the best AOE silencer, as he silences a huge 3x3 area whilst recharging your SP. If you have Olstein, it is rare for you to also need the silence from CNS. Bear in mind that most bosses are immune to silence, so you usually only need silence for dealing with strong mobs that you can't clear in 1 turn.

The main benefits from CNS are that it gives you alternative an AOE option to her base costume, and an additional costume to use whilst Schera's other costumes cool down. This can occasionally be useful when you have multiple enemies with taunt or counters. Otherwise, CNS Schera is generally not recommended as a main attacker for PVE, as her small AOE is limited in the kinds of mob formations it can deal with.

PVE game modes

One mode where CNS Schera is quite useful is Tower of Salvation. Since you have a limited costume roster in Tower of Salvation, being able to deal damage, remove buffs and silence in the same package makes CNS Schera a good choice.

For fiend hunts and guild raids, CNS Schera can also be useful for dealing with bosses that have diagonal weak points. Schera has 3 costumes that can hit multiple diagonal weak points (CNS, Pool Party, and Magic Professor), whereas other strong water attackers like BV.Morphea, Admiral Sylvia and Yumi only hit in straight lines.

Where diagonal weak points are not an issue, Schera is not as good as other stronger AOE water attackers like Morphea, Sylvia and Yumi.

Schera for PVP

Schera is one of the best characters for PVP thanks to her ability to deal strong damage whilst consistently removing buffs.

PP.Schera and PMB.Eleaneer are some of the most popular attack team openers, because they are both 2SP buff removers for dealing with Granhildr. Eleaneer however only has 1 buff removal costume, which means that Eleaneer cannot deal with strong enemy buffers on the next turn such as Lecliss, Seir and RH.Rou. Schera on the other hand can remove buffs with all of her costumes, so she removes buffs every turn. This makes Schera the best buff remover for PVP.

Schera currently has 4 costumes with 5 turn cooldown, so having any 3 costumes will give you a complete costume cycle with no downtime.

CNS.Schera is a good choice because her silence can be very strong in PVP: stopping your opponent from using skills can win games. CNS.Schera can be used effectively as a second costume (after PP.Schera) on attack, or as an opening costume on defense.

After extensive testing however, I still slightly prefer using base Schera (Lapis Witch) over CNS.Schera. Both are very strong, but the main reason is because base Schera's straight line attack is usually more consistent, as it is more effective in dealing with popular formations. Too many times, CNS.Schera has cost the battle when it missed a critical enemy target on the middle tile. The two are very close though, and which costume is preferred will in part depend on the meta.

Also, one disadvantage of CNS.Schera is that limits your options for placing Schera on the field. She usually needs to be placed in the middle or right column, because 1 tile of her AOE is wasted if you place her on the left.

Exclusive gear

Schera's exclusive gear gives her additional M.ATK stats.

Whilst it's always good to have more M.ATK, pulling on her exclusive gear is not recommended because Schera is not considered a top tier attacker for end game content, so the additional stats are unlikely to help you get any high scores.

What's more, Schera has 4 different costumes: more costumes means more chances to have Schera banners, which means more chances to pull her exclusive gear on Schera's banners. There is no use for having dupes of exclusive weapons.

Conclusion

CNS.Schera is nice to have in your roster, but not recommended for heavy investment. She has good offensive capabilities, but has limited AOE and is not a top tier attacker for end-game PVE content. She also doesn't bring much new to the table in terms of utility, because all players can already get Lapis Witch Schera (buff removal) and Fiend Scholar Olstein (AOE silence) for free. Outside of Tower of Salvation, there are very few battles where you might need both buff removal and silence in one costume.

The main benefit to having her are that she fills up Schera's costume cycle in PVP, so that you can continually use different Schera costumes with no downtime.

Unless you need a few more copies to perfect your PVP team, the recommendation is to skip.
