Overview

Very high hit count on both her costumes, great for stacking chains

High damage, good range, and one of the very few dark physical attackers

With full potential, Luvencia now has a complete costume cycle (Deal Snatcher and Wild Dog)

6-tile range is not bad, but doesn't overlap much with her other costume (Deal Snatcher)

Getting the bonus damage 3 times (instead of 2 times) can be difficult

How does Luvencia's skill work?

Luvencia's skill seems quite complicated, but don't worry, there's not actually a lot of math or complexity involved when using her. In summary, Luvencia at +5 full potential will deal either 800% damage or 880% damage (excluding chain damage). Whether or not you get the additional 80% damage depends on which attackers you use before Luvencia. Detailed explanation below.

Luvencia hits 8 times, but deals bonus damage whenever the chain stacks on the enemy are divisible by 3.

Front enemy has 3 chains and receives bonus damage, back enemy has 2 chains and receives normal damage.
Back enemy has 3 chains and receives bonus damage, front enemy has 4 chains and receives normal damage.

If you open the turn with Luvencia (enemies have 0 hits applied), then Luvencia gets two bonus damage hits when using her skill, on the 3rd chain stack and the 6th chain stack. At +5 full potential, this equates to 800% damage in total (excluding chain damage). Note that the amplification from chains are quite significant thanks to her 8 hit skill: Including chain damage (assuming enemy has 0 hits applied), the total skill damage is effectively 1080%.

The damage breakdown is below:

12345678
80%80%160%80%80%160%80%80%
Luvencia's first hit is chain stack number 1.

On the other hand, if you are able to deal 1 or 2 hits to the enemy before using Luvencia, then Luvencia gets her bonus damage 3 times instead of 2 times. At +5 full potential, this equates to 880% damage in total (excluding chain damage).

23456789
80%160%780%80%160%80%80%160%
Luvencia's first hit is chain stack number 2.
345678910
160%80%780%160%80%80%160%80%
Luvencia's first hit is chain stack number 3.

You get the same results if the number of hits applied prior to using Luvencia is 4, 5, 7, 8, 10, 11, etc. As long as the hit count is not zero and not divisible by 3 when activating Luvencia, she will get the bonus damage 3 times instead of 2 times.

Maximizing the bonus damage

It can be tricky to maximize Luvencia's bonus damage, because there are few suitable AOE skills right now that you would normally use in a physical team with Luvencia.

For example, GC.Rafina is a staple in physical teams, but she has a 3-hit skill, which is unfortunately divisible by 3.

Eleaneer, who is a suitable teammate for Luvencia in a dark physical team, also has 3 hits on both her costumes.

Surprisingly, Celia is not necessarily a very good candidate for maximizing Luvencia's damage. On its face, Celia looks perfect, because her Curse costume deals 7 hits, and her Descendant costume deals 5 hits: none of them are divisible by 3. However, if you are using both Celia and Luvencia, you will almost certainly also be running PWB.Refi to make the most of the double chain count buff. The thing is, when MB.Celia and PWB.Refi are used together, their combined buffs triple the hit count of Celia's next attack: e.g. buffed Curse deals 21 hits and buffed Descendant deals 15 hits. Both are divisible by 3: therefore the combo of PWB.Refi + Celia + Luvencia will therefore not allow Luvencia to maximize her bonus damage.

Although it's possible to use various other "no synergy" units in your team, it's generally not worthwhile building a non-optimal team just to get the extra bit of damage out of Luvencia. At the moment, the best (but not ideal) way to trigger the bonus damage on Luvencia is likely to be via SE.Rafina or CNA.Rafina. Both of those Rafina costumes are not optimal because they don't provide full coverage over Luvencia's AOE, however they do not waste a team slot since you would be bringing GC.Rafina anyway.

Luvencia for PVE

Luvencia is great wherever you need strong dark damage and high hit count. Her damage is the best of any dark attacker, especially after taking into account her high base crit damage of 100%. In most fiend hunts and guild raids against light bosses, Wild Dog Luvencia will be essential for ranking high scores.

She is particularly good for Last Night thanks to her very high chain count, though it is recommended that you choose her placement carefully and count the chain stacks so that you can get the 3rd bonus hit.

As a high hit count AOE skill, Luvencia is also not bad for amplifying damage for your other attackers. Right now, the only viable dark physical attacker teammate for Luvencia is Eleaneer.

Luvencia for PVP

Now that Luvencia has a full costume cycle (Deal Snatcher + Wild Dog), she is viable as a PVP defender. Her costumes are on the expensive side, but in defense, Deal Snatcher's speading AOE can be quite effective in catching multiple enemies, and Wild Dog serves as an effective finisher. She now serves as a viable replacement to Empress Rubia in defending teams. For the time being though, it seems likely that Empress Rubia will have the edge thanks to her 45% defense shred and elemental advantage against Lecliss.

Conclusion

High damage, high hit count and good range makes Wild Dog Luvencia a great pick. Although her skill seems complicated, it really just gives her a small damage boost (from 800% to 880% ex chain) if timed correctly. Unless you are looking for a ranking high score, the difference from the bonus damage is not that big, and most of the time you will not need to think about it too much when playing her.

Wild Dog Luvencia is not limited.

Wishing everyone a Happy New Year, and happy pulls in 2025!
