Costume Guide – Beachside Angel Teresse

Official Patch Notes

Overview

Strong buff to set up low-chain nukes (e.g. Sacred Justia, Loen, DJ Venaka, etc)

Pairs well with MC.Teresse to make her one of the highest utility buffers, especially in fiend hunt

Long lasting buff with no downtime and no range limitations

Works fine at lower levels (+2 is an acceptable budget stop point)

Doesn't work for teams with high-chain hits (e.g. Zenith, MB.Celia, PWB.Refi)

Doesn't work well against fiend hunts that require high chain stacks

You won't get the full utility out of her unless you also have MC.Teresse

Teresse damage analysis

BA.Teresse looks great on paper, but when you break it down, she is actually designed mainly for fiend hunts, and only where high chain stacks are not required.

It's useful to start with the basics of buffing mechanics. Buffs of the same type (e.g. ATK boost, crit damage boost etc) add to each other's effects. Buffs of different types multiply each other's effects. It's best to use all different kinds of buffs to multiply each others' power and achieve the highest damage.

The table below shows some examples of 4 buffer combos, when attacking a weak-element enemy with a physical attacker:

BuffersDamage
No buff (base property damage only)150%
DianaH.LathelGC.RafinaMC.Teresse3,656%
DianaH.LathelGC.RafinaCelia5,195%
DianaH.LathelGC.RafinaZenith7,311%
*single target only
DianaH.LathelGC.RafinaBA.Teresse7,504%
*up to 5 chains only, inc GC.Rafina
DianaH.LathelGC.RafinaBA.Teresse + MC.Teresse10,967%
*up to 5 chains only, inc GC.Rafina
All costumes above are assumed to be +5 full potential. Celia refers to Curse Celia after being buffed by MB.Celia the previous turn (14 chain stacks).

As you can see, the first combo was the weakest, because it used two of the same kind of buff (H.Lathel + MC.Teresse are both ATK buffers).

The strongest one-turn combo was with BA.Teresse. BA.Teresse's 200% damage amplification slightly outclasses Zenith (100% damage amp + 6 chains) and significantly outclasses Celia (14 chains).

However, the true power of BA.Teresse lies in the fact that she comes in a package with MC.Teresse. If you have the time to set it up over 2 turns, Teresse can give 2 different powerful buffs over two turns. When combined, they make the strongest damage output available in the game.

What game modes is BA.Teresse good for?

Despite her obvious strengths, BA.Teresse also comes with some pretty obvious weaknesses.

First of all, the chain stack limitation means you are restricted in the kind of battles you can use her in, and the kind of teams you can build. Secondly, to make full use of Teresse's buff power, you need time to set up the BA.Teresse + MC.Teresse combo.

This means she is best suited to fiend hunts and long boss battles.

She is a good choice for Tower of Pride, but in most cases she would not replace AOTU.Diana, who also comes with a crit rate boost.

She is a decent choice in PVP, as a secondary costume to base Teresse. Teresse has great tanky stats, and her base costume makes for a cheap opener. BA.Teresse would make a better secondary costume than MC.Teresse due to lower better cost, a stronger effect, and no positioning requirements. Whether she catches on will partly depend on whether defensive defender strategies like RH.Rou remain popular in the meta.

In Tower of Salvation, BA.Teresse would work in a low hit count team, but this is quite situational and she should not be picked until you are confident that you have developed your team into a low hit count team.

She is least suited to Last Night, where max chains are necessary.

Conclusion

After a few weeks off, we're back to summer!

BA.Teresse is a new costume who is pretty much designed for fiend hunts. If you care about high scoring in fiend hunts, then having BA.Teresse with MC.Teresse will be a must-have, because she is currently the best for max offensive output.

If you don't already have an investment in MC.Teresse and don't have other buffers maxed out, it would not be recommended to invest in BA.Teresse alone. BA.Teresse is somewhat niche compared to "staple" buffers like AOTU.Diana. Remember that this is a gacha game, so unless you feel the need to chase the meta, if you are patient there will undoubtedly be more powerful supporters released in the future.
